I detest Ryan and am surprised that he did not support this, as reported by NYT.

Who knows, maybe he's laughing his ass off in private.

Allegedly he did not support but what kind,of speaker can't prevent something like this if they are truly opposed.

He had to allow it come to the floor for a vote. That's how they hamstrung the Obama administration.

True. I guess only liberals care about ethics and honesty. Now we know, since the GOP stopped pretending

Their glorified Hillary candidate was their quintessential example of "ethics and honesty", wasn't she, op?

Well we did pass that law and you all just rescinded it without notice or debate, just before the new congress sits.

The question that always goes conveniently unanswered.

Except for the Dems who need a little extra cash

Hillary isn't relevant to this thread. The GOP house members, in a closed meeting, have rescinded any concept of ethics oversight it had on itself.

GOP supporters seem to be ok with this, just like they are ok with Russian support of the President-Elect, just like they are ok with the President-Elect entertaining mobsters at his $500/head New Years Party and the list goes on.

Hillary was investigated for 30 years and never charged with a crime. At this point, there is simply no reason to deflect the deplorable actions of the GOP House members to her.

Is this the draining the swamp GOP voters supported?

This question is always a lame attempt to deflect.

Sorry, Hillary is not in office. Can you imagine if she or the Democrats did this? There would've been civil war.

These are our actual elected officials. Are you saying you don't care?

We are on the verge of complete collapse of our democratic institutions - they will have no meaning anymore. The GOP is waging a gradual coup d'etat. This is frightening.

I am a republican and I am not happy about this development. I hope this proposed amendment is defeated today.

I do take some comfort that the vote for putting forth the amendment was 119-74, with republican leadership being against the amendment.

Does anyone know the history of this committee's actions? Has it been a tool of abuse used to target republicans, like the IRS?

It is an independent, bi-partisan body. The only reason to eliminate it is if you plan to do harm to your office or the nation.
