+1 to all of this. I have to wonder if Rory's story was intended for her back in season 7 and 8 had there been an 8th , but the Palladinos should have realized that Rory is 32 years old. At the start Rory was a unique character unlike most teenage females shown on TV she's now become the standard Sex & City stereotype of the modern female and it's sad and pathetic. Her attitude about the teaching job was so off putting. I was annoyed with no one really calling her out on her wayfarer attitude. Emily almost did, but backed off. I'm in my early 30s no way would I put up with my same-aged friend crashing in my house because she didn't want to work. |
| Wow. I must have been the only one who loved it. Yes, I felt it was a bit too congratulatory at times and aimless. It didn't have the urgency of the original. but for the super fans, the ones who grew up on it, it hit nearly every note we wanted and was incredibly meaningful. I cried 3 times watching it. I also like the ending, that there is more to explore. Overall, I would say it was a huge success. |

SPOILERS:
I hated the ending too. I liked that Luke and Lorelei were together and got married, that was sweet and cute. I loved seeing the townspeople, Kurt, etc...They should have shown more Lane. I liked seeing what was up with Paris, Emily, etc... Okay to the negatives: Really annoyed about the amount of time devoted to musicals. Geez, I think the summer episode had a full 30 minutes of just people singing. I'm just not a musical person. And I really hated what they did to Rory. Ugh, so basically she was Logan's "mistress" or whatever and she also had a boyfriend she was stringing along as well? I mean, it wasn't really okay what she did with Dean back in the day, but at least you can blame it on age! She was 19 then and now at 32, she should know better. It was so selfish and just not really funny. I thought it was amusing at first in the Winter episode but she should've just broke up with Paul at the end of the episode. On a side note, I loved seeing Dean and was happy to know he was happily married with another kid on the way. And still pissed at the way Rory treated Dean who was nothing but always kind and sweet to her... The career thing I get but ugh sleeping with Logan knowing he was already engaged and she technically already had a boyfriend? She didn't seem the least remorseful. They kind of ruined the Rory character for me. Also annoyed that she thought being a teacher was beneath her. Seriously, I never thought that being a freelance writer was all that prestigious anyway! And then I was annoyed that she didn't even prepare for the interview with the website company. And also annoyed that she seemed like she was so above it to work at her hometown newspaper. Ugh... The life and death brigade annoyed the crap out of me. Okay, so these rich guys just "buy" an inn because they can and for their stupid game or whatever. Could have done without the whole stupid scene. |

^I agree with the musicals being annoying. Those were atrocious.
Other than that, I'm just pissed that SPOILER . . . . . Is freaking Logan the father? Logan, the biggest douche of all of them? Who she was CHEATING with? I so wanted her to get back together with Dean, or even Jess would do in comparison to Logan. Tristan would be fantastic too. But she gets knocked up by LOGAN the cheating douche? Ugh. The whole "I'm pregnant" thing seems to kind of screw up the prospect of her getting with someone else, at least for a while. And Dean is happily married- ugh. I always pictured her getting back with him and now that chance is ruined. |
| For people hating on Stars Hallow, the Musical, go watch Bunheads. Loved every minute of all 4 episodes, with all of the cameos and crossovers. If you don't get it, you don't get it. |
All of this! I've been a Gilmore Girls fan from the start and was eagerly awaiting the revival so PP can miss me with that if you were a real fan you would have enjoyed it business. I get the disappointment of not having a career pan out like you thought, most older millenials can relate to that, but Rory's I'm too good for everything and everyone let me go be the other women and write a book annoyed me. Girl grow up. I would have much rather seen her have to take the 2nd career option such as the teaching and work on her writing in the evenings. |
| I also didn't like the Southern Belle/Slave boy bit. it wasn't funny and in extremely poor taste. |
But it's not for bunheads fans, it's for Gilmore fans! I am a Gilmore superfan and I could give a flying f*** about boneheads |
You're clearly not a super fan. |
I am. Don't know if you're aware but this is a GILMORE GIRLS reboot not bunheads. |
| This sounds disappointing! Was hoping Jess would have a larger role. However, I'm still curious. I don't have Netflix; is there any way to watch without it? |
| Is bunheads a spinoff of Gilmore girls?? |
|
It's obvious why Jess had bit part, he is much more expensive talent now and had that This Is Us commitments. Dean makes a killling on supernatural, and Matt was on Good Wife, but was not the lead and that show is over. So Netflix could afford to cast him and probably line him up for sequels.
Why they made him such a cad and Rory his mistress??? That is a big WTF. |

I liked it. Some hits and misses. The thing with Rory--good people can do bad things, make bad decisions. Everything she did seemed in character. She's always been imperfect, as have lorelai and Emily. But many of us continue to identify and like them in spite of their character flaws.
They're all real and messy and uncomfortable at times. I have very few complaints except for the Musical (liked it, but could have been shorter. However, adore Sutton Foster and all the other Bunheads cameos-Sasha, Ginny!) and lack of more Lane. I was never invested in which dude Rory would end up with so that prob helped. Also loved the Arrested Development shout outs with Paul. |
| If I think of it as the intended ending to the show when Rory was 22/23, I like it. Logan is Rorys Christopher, Jess is her Luke, she's paralleling her mom. At 32 though...it just seemed sad. Go get a paying job like the rest of us, Rory. |
