There are days when I don't feel very intelligent (I work with EXTREMELY smart people). Then I read this thread.

I didn't say I liked Trump's language, but I guess I am not as easily offended and freaked out as you are. I am from NY and I am used to lots of people saying idiotic things. I remember Jesse Jackson calling NY "hymie town."

Can someone please demonstrate how Donald Trump can "ruin" America?

I'm mildly curious. After all, we had the Bush presidency and I can't claim to have found the country ruined after he left office.

And there have been terrible presidents in the past too. Andrew Jackson was probably far worse than Donald Trump could ever possibly be and he didn't "ruin" America either.

This is not to say that I find Donald Trump an ideal candidate (I despite the man for many reasons) but I do not buy all this fear that somehow Trump will lead to the irrevocable decline of America. We have an extremely strong system of checks and balances, multiple levels of government each with its own separate powers down to the state level and municipality levels, we have a large house of congress, many of whom, including Republicans, despise Donald Trump. We have a huge and very vocal population and one of the biggest and most free media entity in the world that does nothing but closely follow every step the president takes.

The president's power is much more limited than most people realize.

If Trump wins, it opens the door c or any popular crackpot to run for President. Kanye and Kim 2020 anyone? Whatever happened to choosing experienced people for complicated tasks? Trump in the presidency would be like having Joe the Plumber perform Grampa's prostate surgery...he knows how to clean some pipes, and how different is it really?
