Feeling profoundly depressed

Probably wise to be depressed. The WSJ is now reporting that the Clinton Foundation is under criminal investigation.

It is a waste of precious energy to fret and worry. It is healthier to remember that there are good people on both sides. I am going to affirm peace regardless of who gets more votes. I am choosing to remember that we have checks and balances in place in our country that prevent any one branch from having control over our destiny as a nation.

And honestly - I don't like Trump, but comparing anything about this to "Germany circa 1919" is offensive and frankly, just stupid. Comments like this from both sides are exactly why we find ourselves in this position as a country.

Simply not true. One example: Gays now have the right to marry, thanks to Obama's court picks.

A President Trump can slash support to Planned Parenthood, driving up unwanted pregnancies.

A President Trump can kill the EPA and Federal Education Dept., meaning devastation for the disabled and catastrophe for the planet.

So if Trump kills the EPA and Federal Education department how will that mean devastation for the disabled. Most disabled are helped through HHS and local and state programs.

Let's rephrase this, shall we?

A President Trump can (and hopefully will) slash support to Planned Parenthood, decreasing the number of murders of unborn infants.

Wait a minute. This whole time, I've been hearing there's no tax payer funding dollars going to abortions. You seem to be telling us the opposite above?

Trump fixing immigration, no stupid wars, and massive infrastructure spending will be great for this country.

And it will be fun to watch Melania, and Barron grow up.

Yeah that's why he didn't disavow David Duke or retweets White supremacists or started the birther issue. Nice try. The world is not as stupid as you are.

First off, your comparison is absurd. Second -- and please pay attention here -- Trump will not win. He has no viable path to victory in the electoral college. How does an R win without VA, NC, and GA? It would be a sweet irony, though, if all he needed was Utah, but the bald neocon on the ballot there won that state.

OP, I spent a long time in a foreign country that had been peaceful until demagogues got ahold of it, planted seeds of fear and encouraged conflict to maintain their own power. I agree with you and am also mystified that more people do not truly see Trump for what he is and what his campaign is deliberately doing. His rhetoric is very reminiscent of the early rise of dictators and fomenters of conflict.

People who think others or the process will keep him in check are very naive.

Your insane, for god sakes his daughter is jewish and his grandchildren are jewish and you are basically calling him an anti-Semite. Get a grip granny!

Don't forget that a president can take us into wars on faulty premises.

To the pp: I don't think anyone is comparing this to Germany circa 1919. But Germany circa 1933....well, yes there are more than a few parallels there. Even those experts who usually avoid making such parallels have been admitting this time there are in fact quite a few to be drawn. Read this and tell me there are no striking comparison to be found: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/28/books/hitler-ascent-volker-ullrich.html
