Gary Johnson: "And what is Aleppo?"

Great candidate, libertarians.

in Aleppo once, where a malignant and a turbaned Turk
Beat a Venetian, and traduced the state,
I took by the throat the circumcisèd dog,
And smote him—thus. [Stabs himself.

We will never have a viable third party. Our system is designed to prevent it.

Mike Barnicle: "What would you do if you were elected about Aleppo?"
Gary Johnson: "And what is Aleppo?"
MB: "You're kidding."
GJ: "No."
MB: "Aleppo is in Syria. It's the epicenter of the refugee crisis."
GJ: "Got it. Got it.

I have to say that's a very poorly worded question.

intentionally so

Yes. As far as I can tell it was asked without any context. I haven't seen what his actual response was, as everyone is focused on the gotcha moment. No one seems to care what he actually thinks about the situation in Syria, just that he blanked when presented with a name of a city dropped at him without context.

We get the presidential candidates we deserve when the media would rather try to trip someone up on purpose than discuss solutions to an incredibly difficult situation.

The way MB repeated "ALEPPO" and seared into him with his eyes tells me it was an intentional attempt to expose Johnson for his ignorance.

It was an intentional gotcha. A normal question would have provided some context to introduce the subject matter area. I'm sure Johnson knows what the city of Aleppo is, what the Syrian crisis is -- he answered about ending the civil war after all. But the sound ah-lep-po came out of nowhere, and it didn't immediately register.

And if Hillary had done the exact same thing, you'd be screaming that she isn't qualified to tour the Intrepid as a tourist.

I think a potential POTUS should know what Aleppo is without context. It's been in the news a lot recently. So, he's not reading/watching the news. Doesn't make him look informed. While one cannot know what is going on everywhere at once, a leader should know where major current events are taking place.

This. Everyone needs to get used to it.

Hillary wouldn't make that mistake.

Trump would, though. Difference is Trump would try to answer it instead of admitting he didn't know what it was.

He answered calling the civil war in Syria a mess and saying we should ally with Russia to fix it, but only AFTER Barnicle called Aleppo "the epicenter of the refugee crisis." Not a word about the refugee crisis. Here's the video:

Sure. So why did Johnson follow the flub with the acknowledgement that he "need[s] to get smarter" and that this is "part of the process"?

Trump would respond by saying that it's really terrible and he would fix it in his first 30 days.
