Libertarian candidate chokes on Morning Joe today. Mike Barnicle: "What would you do if you were elected about Aleppo?" Gary Johnson: "And what is Aleppo?" MB: "You're kidding." GJ: "No." MB: "Aleppo is in Syria. It's the epicenter of the refugee crisis." GJ: "Got it. Got it.
I have to say that's a very poorly worded question.
intentionally so
Yes. As far as I can tell it was asked without any context. I haven't seen what his actual response was, as everyone is focused on the gotcha moment. No one seems to care what he actually thinks about the situation in Syria, just that he blanked when presented with a name of a city dropped at him without context. We get the presidential candidates we deserve when the media would rather try to trip someone up on purpose than discuss solutions to an incredibly difficult situation.
I think a potential POTUS should know what Aleppo is without context. It's been in the news a lot recently. So, he's not reading/watching the news. Doesn't make him look informed. While one cannot know what is going on everywhere at once, a leader should know where major current events are taking place.
