OK to wear unlined dresses to work?

I wear high-waisted spanx. Prevents chafing and thigh rub, and holds everything in place. I prefer it to just underwear - less slippage.

I was looking at way too many butts on the way home today and the worst I saw was some mild VPL. I am curious about these slip shorts, though. Any recommendation for a good pair that's comfy, moderately breathable, and not tight? I wear a half slip some days because it really does make me look better, but other days it's just too hot so I don't.

Who are you people who are wandering around the office checking out other women's cooters???

I was thinking the same thing. And checking your appearance in all sorts of light and at different angles? Please, I barely have enough time to throw on something and run out the door after getting my toddler ready, much less pick myself apart in the mirror. I work on L Street, where there are tons of women walking around in professional attire, and I have never once thought to look or noticed that someone's clothing was see-through, or whatever.

How many of the posters bitching about see through dresses were on "Team Braless" in the other thread?? Just curious.

I saw that my dress was see through in a certain light when I was walking up to the glass door of a grocery store and saw my reflection... . Half slips really aren't that big of a deal.

There are lots of products out there that are just shorts for wearing under dresses. You can get them tight like bike shorts (easiest / cheapest is to get some oversized shapewear, IMO) or loose (usually sold as pettipants or culottes, and can be found in cotton). I wear these under casual dresses when I am going to be active don't want to flash anyone.

However, they don't prevent your dress from bunching between your legs when you walk, which a half-slip does and which I care about in the office. And half-slips don't prevent chub rub on the thighs in the summer.

Combination half-slips / shorts exist but are hard to find. Commando and Spanx are the only two brands I've found. The version I wear is actually no longer made by Spanx but found on Amazon still, and it is a slip only in the front; just shorts in the back. It's called the Skinny Britches Skort. I would prefer the slip panel go all the way around, but this version was much cheaper and came in larger sizes so I didn't have to actually be "shaped" by the shapewear.

I wear dozens of "unlined" dresses. They are all dark or opaque colors/patterns. They are fairly thick poly blend washable things. While there is a tiny hint of VPL (visible panty line) or the equivalent with my bra, I'm 100% sure you can't tell what color they are, or see my thighs or anything else.

Is this a thing? Are women REALLY wearing slips under their dresses in the 90 degree heat as they walk upwards of a mile to get to and from metro/office/kids etc???

I'm not trying to be snarky.

Ditto. I cannot even fathom wearing a slip. Ever, in any kind of weather any more. I have not worn a slip since about 1993. I am very, very amused that people seem to care about the fact that I and other women are never going to wear them again. They are a total anachronism like panty hose (2 words that make me cringe). But I know that some formal offices require such things, so if you are having to wear the nylons maybe you also have to wear the slips?

So grateful for my informal workplace right about now.

Also, I am 99% sure that the SLIPS OH MY poster is the same as the trash can lady who has matching lines in her lawn with her neighbor. Funny troll, but trooooollll.

Some "informal" workplace! You can walk around with your underwear showing through your dress? Wow.

I wear slips no matter the weather if my dress is see-through. Just because it's 100 degrees doesn't mean the whole world needs to see my ass. And I work in a workplace where we can basically show up in tank tops, but it's just embarrassing to walk around town with your ass hanging out.

Problem with those is that you basically still see a woman's silhouette in great detail. I'm not the most modest person. I wear tank tops with bra straps showing, go braless sometimes, wear tight pants and short skirts, but I would never leave the house in something transparent. And sadly, so many women think their clothes are opaque when they are not.

The shorts, that is.

Your husband wears a slip? In this weather?

Men don't wear see through clothing to work. Accordingly it seems possible for women to also select non see through clothing to work.
I've never worn such things to work.

It's not that hard...
