OK to wear unlined dresses to work?

I'm a lawyer that posted here. Not biglaw but a state agency. I spend horrific amounts of time in court waiting for judges, opposing attorneys, and the involved parties to arrive at court so I've got a fair amount of time to browse.

I'm the poster who noticed my butt was showing in my palazzo pants (and dh confirmed) ? I still don't wear slips, and have not, since the 80s--but I do occasionaly check my cheaper jersey clothes to make sure they are not see through. The clothes are now thinner and cheaper, will never make me go back to wearing slips and hose.

This thread has been the best thing in my week. For fun, I took a 10 woman poll at my office. All admitted to wearing unlined dresses at some point in the summer. Only one copped to wearing a slip or similar item--at least not for the purpose of opaqueness. (There were a few who copped to wearing "shapewear" because they aren't body confident although not in this heat!) The one who admitted to wearing a slip was the youngest of the bunch, which surprised many of us in our 40s/50s. BUT, she says she buys really cheap, thin dresses from places like H&M and that she can tell they are transparent when she buys them, but she likes the style/cut/color and so goes with a slip. None of the women who wore more substantial, yet unlined poly or blend dresses thought it necessary to wear slips or cared about hiding minimal VPL.

Any recommendation for a good pair that's comfy, moderately breathable, and not tight? I wear a half slip some days because it really does make me look better, but other days it's just too hot so I don't.

Jockey slipshorts! They're $20 a pair, but I wash/dry them every 2-3 wears and have worn them all summer. I'm a nanny so chasing after kids and am much more comfortable in lightweight summer dresses.

I wear a silk slip under all my dresses and skirt. It makes everything hang better and prevents seams and tags from irritating my skin. Because they're silk, they breathe and are not hot. I get them from JCrew.
