| Did the schools send it home or did it come in the mail? |
| In the mail for us. |
| Really wonder about those NNAT scores. Checked my kid's backpack, nothing yet... |
| If you've received the letter, can you also state your child's score? Thanks. |
My kids came in - it is 126 not sure if it is good enough, what is the cutoff for last year and do we know cutoff for this year |
I think it's been 132 for several years. |
thank you - does this mean that kid is not considered for pool, not sure how much weightage is given to NNAT vs COGAT and GBRS |
NNAT score of 132 and over is one way of getting in the pool, the other is COGAT score of over 132. If your kid is not in the pool with either of the scores, then you can parent refer and have your kid be considered for AAP. Historically more weight has been given to the COGAT as well as the GBRS score. I wouldn't worry too much about the NNAT score of 126 at this point. |
Thank you for explaining this to me - this is our first kid and we are not aware of the entire process |
Not necessarily true. DS 1 got a 134 on NNAT and a 129 on COGAT in 2014, was in pool, and denied admission to AAP. We didn't appeal, he is in immersion anyway and we wouldn't have accepted. |
I don't follow you...the first poster notes you 2 out of 3 good scores. Your child had one good score (NNAT) and wasn't admitted. I'm guessing the GBRS wasn't that high and therefore he wasn't admitted. |
| What is GBRS? |
The Gifted Behavior Rating Scale filled out by a committee in second grade WITH COMMENTARY (comments, specific to your child). Here it is, blank: http://www.fcps.edu/is/aap/packet/Fillable_AAPGBRSwithCommentary.pdf A GBRS is filled out annually, however it has the comments for kids being considered for AAP (either in or out of the pool.) The second grade GBRS report is filled out with a committee (typically the second grade teacher, an administrator and the AART). |
| High NNAT gets you in pool but isn't really insurance. Honestly, unless numbers are in high 140s, it's a crap shoot given the total package. Even a 132 CogAT just gets you in pool but isn't much insurance either. Now a 140+ CogAT would be insurance and may even fight off a low GBRS. |
I wouldn't worry, if it was meant to be the scores will reflect that. It's worse to place them when they don't belong and see them struggle to keep up with rest of the class. Let it be... |
