Please stop inviting me to your "party"

The only one of these I would consider going to is the sex toy ones. Those tacky nail wraps are literally the worst crap ever.

I've never seen that, that's insanely tacky.

MYTH MYTH MYTH -- because when people get involved with MLM, they have to invest -- hundreds if not thousands to "get the business off the ground before it becomes profitable." And if the business isn't profitable, they just need to invest a little more in a motivational DVD or some other crap from the mothership. They are in no way supplementing their income. They are further draining it.

Bad investment, on the seller/pusher's part.

You have some nerve inviting me to your party, but not inviting my kid to your kid's birthday party. Then you post it all on Facebook. No thanks.

This. Ridiculous.

Ok. Then they do it because they think it will bring in money...? I don't know why anyone would want to do it.

There are some people that are very easily manipulated and that is who is selling/buying this stuff. They see $ signs when they get pitched to. They don't hear reason because the person pitching it to them is extremely convincing. These are the same people who stay in bad relationships, stay in terrible jobs etc... Easy targets. I fully believe that rational people don't do this.

My mom recently went to some type of party at a neighbors house where she spend $100 on a pot.

I told her don't go again.

They can't. They have chosen to be SAHMs and fooled themselves into thinking this is a good idea to remain professional and start their own business.

Really. "ALL" the people you know who do this are SAHMs, coincidentally ALL with big law husbands who ALL live in $1.5 million dollar houses. What a hilarious, and not even very clever, generalization.

FWIW, I only know three women who are into MLM, and they all do it in addition to their regular jobs. I guess they see it as supplemental income even if it's anything but. But I have no idea why they actually do it, what their husbands do, or how much their houses are worth. If I found myself stewing over those details, I'd have to admit I had waaaaay too much time on my hands. And maybe also had some serious jealousy issues.

Living in Bethesda here. No one in my social circle does this. I know one PTA mother who signs emails with some crap like this, but thankfully she has never made overtures in that sense.

I wonder who these people are? Don't they know that a serious breach of social etiquette to use "friends" for money?

Same here. In fact, of the women I know who do these MLM schemes, all of them WOH. This is like a side thing for them. I don't personally know of any SAHMs who do this nonsense. Several of the women in my office do this - pass around their dumb catalog during work hours. It's pathetic.

We run for the hills when we see these women heading our way at work. I can't even believe it's allowed in the workplace.

My sister does this. She used to be addicted to stamping/scrapbooking and it would help pay for her addiction.

And she owned her owned actual established business. The scrapbooking "business" was justification for a really expensive hobby.

Met a lady who did wine sales/parties. Now that is one I can get behind.

I ask to see their 1099's and they stop asking.

Kidding. I don't.

But I'd LOVE to.
