Please stop inviting me to your "party"

I have a friend/acquaintance who has just started to fill up her Pinterest pages with all this crap. She has a 'skin care' page on Pinterest that is just more ads for her MLM line of skincare products. I'm annoyed because it's taking some of the joy out of my pinterest browsing. It's amazing what the marketing folks will think of next though, isn't it? Pretend you're browsing Pinterest but sneak in more ads for your products!

Really recent thread on MLM-related woes here:

Same here. In fact, of the women I know who do these MLM schemes, all of them WOH. This is like a side thing for them. I don't personally know of any SAHMs who do this nonsense. Several of the women in my office do this - pass around their dumb catalog during work hours. It's pathetic.

Mannnn.... I really want an MLM AMA. Maybe a former MLM will do one? Someone who has since seen the error of their ways, perhaps?

+1000, but I also go to pinktruth for that type of inside look.

I'm lucky in that the people I know who do this are largely not that aggressive and just invite me to "online parties" that I remove myself from as soon as I notice them. I too would love to hear from someone in one of these businesses - how much are you really making? Has anyone yelled at you for being pushy?

Yes! I do want to hear this.

They will never, ever respond. Everything they do is scripted, and I guarantee that they're not supposed to do this.

Yes! An AMA would be awesome.

At least they are honest about the party! I had a "friend" invite me to a housewarming party. I went out and bought her a nice kitchenaide mixer....it was really a Mary Kay party!! I was the only chump with a gift too. We haven't spoken since.

You are a good friend to buy at Kitchenmaid Mixer! I want to be your friend!

The MLM people I know seemed to start it because they really liked the products and wanted to stock up themselves at the discounted rate. One of them offered her friends the products using her discount so she could meet the sales quotas. All of these people have since quit. I don't know any who have moved "up the chain" - thankfully.

+1, you are a good person. I would have been spitting mad.

The only MLM parties I will go to and stuff I will buy is Pampered Chef and those damn Lu La Roue leggings and tunics (not in the crazy prints, but they really are good quality, if you can get past the goofy way you have to buy them). Everything else is a hard pass.

I think there was one once.

MYTH MYTH MYTH -- because when people get involved with MLM, they have to invest -- hundreds if not thousands to "get the business off the ground before it becomes profitable." And if the business isn't profitable, they just need to invest a little more in a motivational DVD or some other crap from the mothership. They are in no way supplementing their income. They are further draining it.

I was! (and one could argue still am since I am posting about it!) I never spoke to her again! It ruined our friendship. She also never wrote me a thank note... nail in the coffin!!

All of the people I know who do it are SAHM's with big law type husbands. They live in $1.5 million dollar houses. I don't think they need the money, they just want to earn their "own" money. I notice it mostly with my kids' preschool friends.

You have some nerve inviting me to your party, but not inviting my kid to your kid's birthday party. Then you post it all on Facebook. No thanks.
