| How well are older students at Stokes doing in the target language? Are the academics challenging? |
Curious as to which ones you consider better? One of the reasons is the option for middle at CMI. There aren't any good public options on the hill. |
Agree. Young Hill families are so cute. |
like they are going to get into both and have a choice.

My child is in an upper grade and is doing well in the target language. Enjoys going to school every day. Finds some things easy (spelling), and other subjects a little challenging. Right now, she is learning science in the target language. So far, so good. |
CMI just strikes me as a lot of buzzwords with little to show for it. Not bashing it, but the international primary curriculum is Not a draw for us. Also the Spanish and mandarin exposure is a waste of time. If you're going to devote that much time to language study, I'd expect something to show for it. But if you want to drive forever and go to CMI, that's your choice. You could also move to an uglier part of DC and have an easy commute too! Or just move to the suburbs (NWDC). Your call. I just find it strange that you'd take a long drive to a mediocre school. |
And isn't that so great why there is school choice? You are perfectly welcome to go to your neighborhood school, which we are also able to think is perfectly mediocre and we can go to CMI, which we love. And everyone is happy! Yay! |
| Anyone actually have a student or know of a student at CMI? Is it really hype or ? |
That's just bitchy. |
I don't want your ugliness in my "ugly" part of town. |
My son is at CMI in PK3 and we love it. He is learning a ton, it is a really a loving atmosphere, and you couldn't ask for a prettier campus. We are not entering the lottery this year- happy to stay there. I will say that there is no way that I would commute there from the Hill. I don't think any school is worth that. |
| We have children at CMI and we also love the school. Our kids are doing very well there and have been at the school since the beginning. It's definitely not hype. |

Lots of threads here about CMI, and families are extremely happy at the school. Our DCs have attended CMI for three years and we are grateful every day for this wonderful school and the support of the CMI community. We are happy with academics and with everything else. It's fine, however, if it's not for your family.
Best of luck to everyone in the lottery! |
I commute via North Capitol - it's not great but not necessarily a deal breaker. Since I do a similar commute every day (Petworth-ITS-Union Station), my guess it 10-15 min to CMI from your house in the morning and 20-25 min to work after. It would be way better if you got in to MV, but not unworkable IMO. |
