| Honestly 20814 isn't "North Bethesda". Look at a map... |
OP originally asked about the northern parts of Bethesda that are still in 20814, not "North Bethesda" which is generally understood to be 20852. |
| Yup like a PP said, the thread should be about northern Bethesda. And I'm not aware of any stigma in fact the opposite bc NIH is associated with medical doctors, and people like and respect them |
| Using the term "stigma" to describe either North Bethesda or the northern parts of Bethesda borders on the pathological. Both are nice areas. |
Way to dismiss and propagate the North Bethesda stigma in the same sentence while throwing a similar and equally jonesy jab at N Potomac. |
Yes but less prestigious. Even the people who live there know that and that is what the OP is referring to. |
No place is Chevy Chase and ask any real estate agent, Bethesda is way more of a draw than Potomac. Beside your analogy is plain stupid. Talk to a guy who lives in Burleith or Glover Park and he will either tell you he live in or by Georgetown depending on what he thinks you know or might visit. You named three distict places that people aspire to. |
No. Impressing strangers is the most important thing. |
+1! Are you kidding me? |
|
Whenever anyone tells me they live in "North Bethesda" I think they are insufferable. Was the stigma to which you are referring?
If not, there is no stigma. |
Then the OP should use different language. Some people avoid areas that care too much about being considered "prestigious." |
|
People who live in the neighborhoods OP is talking about don't say they live in north Bethesda. They say "Bethesda near NIH" or "Ashburton" or "Parkwood." |
| ^ Not necessarily. When people go out of their way to claim an area has "prestige" or "cachet," it can be a red flag. It's easy enough to figure out which areas cost more to live in than others, so why the need to slap another label on it? |
| I live in North Bethesda on Tuckerman lane. I didn't know I should not use the name. Is it silly if I use it? When I bought my place, the address says north Bethesda. I didn't know the place is called Rockville. |
