Cap City
Sela
Maybe Breakthrough, depending on location
Whittier (IB)

Been working on this list for like 15 months, no joke. Feeling pretty solid now. Good luck everyone!

Interesting to see Cap City but not Bridges on this list, given the new location.

We are also applying to some private preschools as a back up, but we want her somewhere next year. Can live with LT but we feel like we can always get in there next year and this is our chance to try for something else. Can also tolerate a little bit of a commute for the right school. Wouldn't mind immersion, but no interest in Chinese.

1.) SWS (only because it's next to our house. Haven't toured it yet)
2.) MV
3.) CM (seems nice but commute might not be worth it)
3.) Two Rivers
4.) Two Rivers -Young
5.) IT (know someone happy there)
6.) Lee Montessori
7.) Stokes Spanish
8.) Stokes French
9.) LT

I feel like I am kind of guessing at the right order and there may be some schools I'm missing. Without a spectacular lottery number, I think the outcome will be LT anyway

If you think the commute to CMI is too far, I wouldn't rank it so high. If you do get a good lottery number and get in there, you won't get wait-listed at any of the schools you ranked below that, including LT. Then if you decide the commute is too far, what do you do? Commute is definitely an important consideration!

+1
We are CMI parents who used to live on capitol hill, and it sucked. We knew we were moving, and in fact bought a house in Petworth recently, but trying to get to CMI from Capitol Hill every day was an exercise in tremendous frustration and wouldn't have been worth it for us permanently. And we LOVE CMI and are very happy with it. But now our commute is about 5-7 minutes versus 40+. It makes a world of difference to our quality of life.

I would add Seaton as another safety if I were you.

Thamks, PP. Seaton is not really convenient for our commutes. Do you think we should be concerned about getting in to Langley?

Current PrK3 parents who had the following schools on your lottery list CM, IT, MV, Lee, 2R, Stokes

Where did you wind up? Knowing what you know now, would you do anything different?

2 yrs ago we had Cap City #1 and ITS #2 and were accepted at ITS. We love it and are so glad to be there. For commute reasons Cap City should not have been at the top of our list, all has worked out for the best.

Current (and happy) Langley IB parent- given the magnitude of the Bloomingdale / Eckington / Edgewood baby boom and improving reputation of the school I would say it is not 100% that you get in as IB either initially or waitlist, but extremely good odds, as in 90%+.

This based on my vague recollection Langley had some, though not many, PK3 spots left for Round 2 last year.

Thanks PP! Glad to hear you are happy at Langley. I know our list basically guarantees that without an awesome lottery number we will be at Langley and I'm ok with that, actually kind of excited to be part of an emerging neighborhood school. But I will see what I think after the open house tomorrow.

With the amount of IB 3 year olds in the neighborhood, Seaton is no longer a safety. Use Garrison as your safety.

I'm not a parent at either school (much older child) just advice.

I think that most of the transitioning schools EOTP are no longer safeties for PK3. I haven't crunched any numbers, but most seem to fill with IB for PK3.

OP of this list here, and Cleveland Spanish is definitely not a safety at all if you're OOB. Seaton is barely a safety anymore. But whatever-- I was at the Langley open gym today and we had a blast. PK3 teacher seemed great too. Very warm and friendly atmosphere.

We couldn't get in with walking distance proximity 5 years ago. Don't bother wasting a spot!
