I'm very confused. Do you want to warn his wife that if she doesn't lose weight, he'll leave her? Tell him that if he walks, she gets half? I cannot understand what wisdom you think you could possibly impart about the situation. Surely everyone is aware that she is now fat and he is unhappy, though those things aren't necesarily related.

What do you want to say and to whom? If you're asking if you should say something toyour SIL about her weight gain - the answer is always no.

Perhaps your brother is bummed that his family is such a disappointment. Maybe he's not unhappy about his wife.

OR maybe your brother is a jerk of a husband and his wife is eating her feelings to deal with it.

This is a very real side effect of many drugs for serious illnesses, so tread lightly, OP!

If you are NOT in fact a troll (or not a troll IRL), why don't you simply have a normal, kind, nonjudgmental discussion with no weight opinions whatsoever, particularly since many, many people overeat at Xmas and wouldn't appreciate overhearing your judgments?
