The house is worth at least 500k and it is rapidly increasing in value. One must seriously take this into consideration.

They're in a 500K house? On DCUM we call that a sh*t shack. These relatives are clearly not worth your time. Head for the punch bowl and chat up bigger fish.

Its not worth as much because its kind of far out of the beltway.
Inside the beltway perhaps 800k, 900k?
I am not in real estate but in a closer in location it would be worth a lot more.
But still not chump change by any means.

Not understanding your point or why you think that this is even a teeny bit of your beeswax.

He had it before they were married. Way before.

Go ahead and bring it up, OP.
You will now have one family member who will have an incredible Festivus with lots of grievances to air.
Get ready to be the target of those grievances.

And this is your business why?

Did they buy it together before they married? If so, it is still and always has been half hers.

I'm still trying to understand what a person's BMI has to do with home value. ?

No he bought it before they were married.
The land was deserted when he bought it but recently the entire area has been undergoing lots of development.

Huh?

Definitely don't speak over anyone when you bring this up at dinner, that would be rude. Just wait until there's a lull in conversation.

+1 I think I missed the linkage.

It is very obvious he does not look happy.
Should I say something to him about it.

+1! OP, are you too happy today? Is this Christmas just too calm? Do you feel the need to mix it up and create drama?

Here's a question: what about you? What's your BMI? What about your wife?

Wow! A judge at Christmas dinner ... never saw that before ...
