Natural supplements to treat depression and anxiety

Anonymous
Has anyone tried passion fruit extract or pills for anxiety? I was just speaking with someone who swears by it, and says it works like xanax for her. She buys it from Amazon. Ever heard of this?

Ever heard of placebo effect? Extremely powerful, especially when combined with sample bias.

Um, yes. However, the person who shared this with me is a person who has taken numerous drugs over the years for anxiety, among other things. She says the passion fruit extract capsules have the same effect as xanax. If they didn't, I have no doubt she would be back on xanax.

Is it different/better than regular magnesium supplements?

Holy basil and other stuff that you buy on the shelf is mostly filler and nonsense, honestly.

Psychotherapists cannot prescribe drugs. You have to get your drugs from a doctor.

If you've never used natural supplements, how do you know they are nonsense?

Post if you have something useful to offer.

Metagenics. Buy it on Amazon or from NEEDS.com

It's called B Complex Plus. Great. Makes me feel better in a couple of days. I often forget to take it though. You have to take it in the AM, or it will interfere with your sleep.

Also, Vitamin C
Green Tea Extract
Cod Liver Oil

all are great for anxiety/depression.

Ditto cutting out sugar, taking magnesium at night, 5-HTP, and a light box. I have a "Happy Light" I bought on Amazon. Seems to help brighten up the dark days of winter. I put it behind my computer and leave it on while I'm working.

OP, why don't you go see a holistic medical doctor? You shouldn't be taking advice from the internet. Passion fruit extract may have worked wonders for one person, but it could be poison for you depending on your body chemistry. A holistic doctor or a naturopathic physician will be able to suggest natural emedies that will work for you.

PP here- it's the only one I've tried, so I don't know. But I'm quite happy with it. I actually only take it when I can't sleep or am really stressed . Probably once or twice a month. I should more

I think it may allow for quicker delivery because liquids digest faster than tablets. I am prone to foot cramps in the evening and find Natural Calm remarkably quick in helping. I don't take it otherwise.

Most don't take insurance. There is an integrative doctor in Friendship Heights DC who does. Perhaps someone here can remember the name. Personally, I'd only go to one who was an MD.

Dr. Ali Safayan--more Tenleytown than Friendship Heights. Yelp reviews are mixed, but he does take insurance.

the Natural Calm mag supplement, vitamin D and regular exercise has helped me a lot

I am a PP who recommended natural calm and have been following this thread.

I decided to start taking vitamin D, fish oil, b complex and turmeric (having some inflammation issues).

Anyone know if all these can be taken together ? When I google them separately there doesn't seem to be a problem
