I'm afraid my DS has MEASLES, I'm freaking out

Yeah, peds usually will take after hours calls. If not, I would switch practices.

I did not hide the eye infection. He got it on Sunday and on Tuesday the doctor told me he needed to stay out of school for 2 days or until there was no more discharge from his eyes. When I took him to school (or daycare, whatever - his 4 1/2 yo brother attends their preschool program, so we just call it school because his older brother and his classmates call it school) on Friday, his eyes were 100% clear and he did not have a rash or anything and I gave them his doctor's note and told them what had gone on during the past week.

He did have seafood for the first time Thursday night (salmon), I'm thinking maybe he has an allergy to seafood? We will be following up with the doctor, so hopefully will get an answer.

It's almost noon now, and there is almost no rash left anymore, only thing left is a slightly runny nose.

I would NEVER expose my child to other children when I thought or was told by the doctor that he was sick/contagious.

They have an after hours message service, but that's all.

Just for next time, that's probably the answering service for the on-call ped. You leave a message with the service, they page the doc and give her the details and the doc calls you.

Thanks, I actually didn't know this. I figured they just took messages and gave them to the doctors when the practice reopened. I will definitely ask them about this.

Fever, viral rash, and runny nose are not symptoms of food allergy. I think you're grasping at straws here. Sounds like a virus to me, those cause rashes in kids all the time.

His eyes are clear, no fever, and the rash is quite a bit better. He does still have diahrrea though. I guess I'm going to just monitor him closely, and put a call in to my pediatrician on Monday, and take him to ER/UC if anything gets worse.

Thank you all!
Lots of fluids to replenish the lost fluids and keep flushing out whatever the baby is reacting to. Stock up on Pedialyte!

You don't have to defend yourself OP. This person was being nasty.

Okay, I didn't read all the responses, but about 5% of the kids who receive the MMR vaccine, get a mild case of the measles. My kid did. He had a fever and a rash but was otherwise fine and it cleared up in a week. He didn't need to go back to the doctor. The conjunctivitis your kid had was probably unrelated (and extremely common in babies and toddlers).

If he had the real measles, he would have a fever so high he'd probably be hospitalized. If that's not the case, your kid is fine. If he doesn't have a high fever, he doesn't need to go to the ER. Stop panicking.

OP here, thank you, DS's fever never got above 100.5, so this is promising. He's feeling pretty well now and is napping, but I will definitely be calling his peditrician first thing Monday morning.

Thank you to all who gave helpful replied, I really appreciate it.

Have you considered an allergic reaction to the antibiotic eye cream?

Usually, hives are a reaction to a food allergy. A small red pinpoint rash is a reaction to antibiotic allergy. Could also be a viral rash, or a strep rash.

DS is 12 months old. He has all the symptoms of measles. I'm going to call and see if I can get him into our pediatrication first thing tomorrow (they sometimes have Saturday hours, so I'm hoping tomorrow is one of the Saturdays they are open). But I'm freaking out right now.

DS's nose started running on Sunday, and his eyes started turning red and having discharge and he started having diahrrea, fever and cough. Tuesday I took him to his pediatrician and they said he had conjunctivitis in both his eyes, which they weren't sure was viral or bacterial and they gave me a prescription for an antibiotic eye salve. They told me he couldn't return to school until there was no more discharge from his eyes.

Friday morning, his eyes were clear when he woke up, and he seemd fine, diahhrea had also resolved. But, later yesterday he started developing a rash. Now it is all over his body and looks exactly the photos online of measles.

He had is 12 month appointment on 8/31, and got all of his shots - I'm not antivax and have never refused any vaccinations, so I'm assumming he had his MMR vax, but I can't be sure because it was his dad who took him and he says he doesn't know what they gave him.

Could this be a reaction to the vaccine, or would hat have happened sooner? I really hope I'm being paranoid, but I'm freaking out here.

Could this be something else? His symptoms were, in order:

diahrrea
eye's getting red and swollen and pussy they would be sealed shut after sleeping
runny nose
trouble sleepeing (he's generally a STTN baby)
lethargic
fever
everything seemed to clear up - then he gets an all over body rash

He's sleeping now, but that sounds just like measles right?

Is there something else it could be??

So-
One thing I can't get over here

Dad didn't know what shits they gave him. So you didn't know what he got.

This is a bit irresponsible.

You are the parents. Verify and write down what shits are given, when they are given. I have a complete record of every shot my kid has ever had. It's so easy today with health apps.

Apparently, no shits are given.
