I'm afraid my DS has MEASLES, I'm freaking out

Anonymous
I'm in DC area.

DS is 12 months old. He has all the symptoms of measles. I'm going to call and see if I can get him into our pediatrication first thing tomorrow (they sometimes have Saturday hours, so I'm hoping tomorrow is one of the Saturdays they are open). But I'm freaking out right now.

DS's nose started running on Sunday, and his eyes started turning red and having discharge and he started having diahrrea, fever and cough. Tuesday I took him to his pediatrician and they said he had conjunctivitis in both his eyes, which they weren't sure was viral or bacterial and they gave me a prescription for an antibiotic eye salve. They told me he couldn't return to school until there was no more discharge from his eyes.

Friday morning, his eyes were clear when he woke up, and he seemd fine, diahhrea had also resolved. But, later yesterday he started developing a rash. Now it is all over his body and looks exactly the photos online of measles.

He had is 12 month appointment on 8/31, and got all of his shots - I'm not antivax and have never refused any vaccinations, so I'm assumming he had his MMR vax, but I can't be sure because it was his dad who took him and he says he doesn't know what they gave him.

Could this be a reaction to the vaccine, or would hat have happened sooner? I really hope I'm being paranoid, but I'm freaking out here.

Could this be something else? His symptoms were, in order:

diahrrea
eye's getting red and swollen and pussy they would be sealed shut after sleeping
runny nose
trouble sleepeing (he's generally a STTN baby)
lethargic
fever
everything seemed to clear up - then he gets an all over body rash

He's sleeping now, but that sounds just like measles right?

Is there something else it could be??

The immunization schedule is shown here - DS probably had his first MMR shot.

Sounds like he has a reaction to the MMR - fairly common:

Why don't you call your pediatrician and ask for advice? If there's still a high fever, might be worth a visit to the hospital.

Thank you, no fever at all anymore. I'm going to call first thing tomorrow in hopes pediatrician is open. I'm hoping to not have to take him to ER - it's so expensive and the doctor's there don't know his history. I guess I'll try to get some sleep and see how he is in the morning.

Thank you PPs, but the reaction to the vaccine symptoms don't mention the red, swollen, infected eyes, which are a symptom of menangitis

Don't dismiss Urgent Care Clinics. I use one instead of a primary care physician and my friends uses the same one to supplement his regular doctor because you are seen immediately (less time.money, and stress than ER). Not the commercials ones, go to one like DC Primary Care.

I would take him to an urgent care or er just in case. But I'm guessing it's a reaction to the vaccine plus a regular ole virus.

Geez, I meant measles, not menangitis.

If I take him to an urgent care, what precautions should I follow??

I don't want to expose anyone else to possible catching it if he does in fact have measles

The links mention conjunctivitis as a side effect.

Call ahead. They usually open around 8 AM. Call first thing. They tend to be less busy first thing.

I would just take him to urgent care. I am sure they can make all the necessary precautions - put you in a separate room right away etc.
