Infiniti is not a luxury brand. It's faux-luxury.

One step above Hyundai, but at least hyundai is honest about who they are.

enlighten us oh great one about your definition of a luxury car, rolls royce ?

Oh come on - infinitis are cheap and wannabe. Even Lexus is nicer - and I'm down on Lexus.

When I see an Infiniti, I see cheap babywhore perfume, sorority stickers, and daddy's barely upper middle class wannabe-baller money.

Or, I see two gs-14s who think that not only have they made it, but that you in your dodge 3500 (more $ btw), hasn't.

It really is a "luxury" car for 105-110 IQs with poor insight.

Enjoy your "G" wagon, PP.

Interesting, I see someone who didn't over pay for a car. What car did you buy?

I drive an Infiniti because it had the best all-around collection of features for the type of vehicle/price range we were looking at. Go ahead and judge me for it, I suspect I'm not missing out on anything if you snub me at the pool.

PP won't snub you because he won't see you since only Infiniti owners and other povs go to public pools. PP has his own pool and another at the club.

I don't go to a public pool either.

Kiddie pool? Not sure how you could afford anything else on an Infiniti salary. Maybe you can use that low Infiniti IQ to knock some stones together, make a spear and go chase PP away from his pool and then take a dip? Oh well, at least you've got your sorority stickers.

Private pool. Never in a sorority. Still love my car.

I'm looking at a 2012 or 2013 mid size luxury sport sedan, and Infiniti M37 is my likely choice. I love Nissan engines, CR loves the reliability, and I like the fact they are not so common. But it's not the price. The E class seems more affordable.
Anonymous
I love the Q70, which is the same as the older name M37. But yeah, you don't see a lot of them on the road for some reason (which is another reason I like it).

The G37 is a very good, reliable and fast car. A good choice too.

Wow, I see the thread has devolved.

OP, the reliability data from JD Powers is there for you to see. Comparison reviews of Infiniti vs other makes are a quick search away. BMW is the benchmark in the G37/Q50 segment and it is there for a reason.

If all you want is a good deal, Infiniti will definitely get you a good deal. But you'll be purchasing an inferior car in the process. Ultimately the decision is yours, but it is very important for you to make an informed decision by test driving all the cars.

If at the end of the day, you feel that a Infiniti satisfies all your driving wants and needs, and comes in at a lower price point, then it is the correct choice. Maintenance costs and reliability concerns should not factor in the decision as previously illustrated.

Good luck.

I disagree that the Infiniti is an inferior car compared to a BMW. It depends what model and how they are optioned. Many BMWs have little in the way of standard features. CR (and I agree) also finds Infinti to be better built cars than BMW. I personally hate German luxury cars and prefer Lexus and Infinti. But clearly, tastes are subjective.

If you buy cars like you buy a washing machine, by all means, go and read consumer reports about car rankings. This is the same company that first rated Tesla as the best car they've ever reviewed, and then took that away when the door handle failed to pop-out. This level of flip-flopping and knee-jerk reaction reveals an organization no longer focused on doing what they do best and are instead chasing after sensationalized news.

JD Powers places Infiniti one slot above BMW in dependability, but it would be a stretch to say you would see any significant difference between the two brands for reliability.

BMW 3 series cost more than the G37/Q50, this is not news. When you have an inferior product, you have to sell it for less. You can make the same point regarding Kia/Hyundai vs Honda. Again, it's up to the OP to decide what's more important, features/dollar, or the benchmark entry level luxury sports sedan. No one is saying that BMW is always the right choice for everyone, but claiming that Infiniti makes a better car is not conducive to a rational discussion because it has no basis in reality.

lol. Nobody is saying that the market value of BMW is higher. Idiots like you and other sheep have spoken. But "claiming that Infiniti makes a better car is not conducive to a rational discussion" is laughable when you acknowledge that the two leading quality studies, CR and JD Power, both rank Infiniti higher. LOL.

I almost bought one, but decided to go with a BMW 3 series instead. My grandmother is still driving her 1994 Infiniti and it's in great shape.

OP here, what do you mean by that? Do you mean the paint chips off or that the car looks dated quickly?

PP here. To me, they look dated pretty quickly, but of course that's a personal thing. I went into car buying firmly intent on buying a used entry level "luxury" car, but felt that most of the Infinitis just did not age well compared to BMW and Audis. I looked at ten year old BMWs and was flabbergasted at how modern and fresh they looked.

That was on the outside of course. After I researched the cars and reliability, I wouldn't touch a ten year old BMW with a ten foot pole. I really enjoy my BMW 3 series and its fun to drive, but I wouldn't own one past the initial four year warranty period. The starter had to be replaced three weeks into ownership, with only 300 miles on the odometer. No it didn't cost me anything, but it was a pain and a disappointment to have to have your brand new car in for maintenance for a week.

We had two BMWs in a row that were constantly in for repairs, I will never touch that brand again.

I've owned both. The BMW is better looking and more fun to drive. The Infiniti is much more reliable and considerably less expensive to maintain.

I chose an Infiniti after DH and I have had years bad experiences with a Mercedes, an Audi and a BMW. And frankly, it's not just the cost of maintenance and repairs, it's the hassle of constantly having to go to the dealership. It's also the worry about if my newish, expensive car is going to stall out on me in the middle of Wisconsin Ave. during rush hour or the AC goes out of my year-old car in the middle of August. We were constantly dealing with crap like that with all of our European cars (and we didn't own any of them for more than 7 years so none should have had the problems they did). No, my Infiniti isn't as good looking or exciting, but it's had ZERO issues and that counts for a lot. And to the obnoxious PP- I can afford any car I want. I want something easy at this point in my life. Judge away.
