You have received "strong comments" because you are obviously putting an insane amount of pressure on your MS child based on your post. You need to CHILL OUT or your kid will pay the price. |
| OP, if your child is not in one of the math magnets, where will s/he take Algebra II next year? Does your middle school teach it or will s/he have to be bused to a high school? |
Bused to high school |
Was your DC able to see the final exam with corrections? The fact that the exam didn't seem difficult and the fact that DC was disappointed doesn't mean that DC is an "A-student" or deserves an A or any of that. Your title misrepresented information in your first post, and now this goes further to change the story. I'll ask again why a MS grade would appear on a HS transcript? |
| Do parents really expect their children to carry straight A's for every class that's on the transcript? THIS is why students have breakdowns when they get to college. A 'B' in geometry is an honorable grade. let it go. |
Where in the post did you see that parents are putting 'insane amount of pressure' on the child. It is with both school and parents recommendation that a student is accelerated in math and reading, so was this kid. The post was more to get clarity on MS Grades on HS transcript issue and the impact on college admissions in future. If you can not understand the content you can avoid commenting. |
NP here. This is a new thing in many of the counties around here. If the student is taking a high school level course, the grade is included in the high school transcript. I think it's a terrible policy. |
Thank you for the explanation. I don't think it's a great policy; however I suppose it could discourage people from sending their children until they are certain it is appropriate for their abilities. I think that makes sense. |
OP here. I see your point. What I tried to convey was that this student is an all A-student with the exception of these two 'B's. |

In middle school, kids can earn HS credit. It's that simple. Taking a language in MS counts, for example- as does advanced math. When a student caps in math at the MS level, s/he can then be provided transportation to the HS to continue. |
Anyone who is worried that a B in middle school will hurt a child's college admissions is putting too much pressure on the child's academic performance. |

People -
is a ridiculous thread. Kids who react in this manner often reflect the insecurity of their parents. Chill out. There are plenty of kids who graduate with under a 4.0 and do fine. So unless you're a Rockefeller or another member of the elite group, Harvard or Princeton isn't after your kid. |
Thanks. I wish MS students could take the HS course if ready, but only get HS credit for courses taken IN hs. |
OP, I would think very hard about math track for your kid. While B is a good grade overall, do you really think DC is capable of handling Algebra II in 8th grade and Pre-Calc in 9th? Talk to your kid, and maybe chancellor, think hard if DC is really ready for heavy math track in HS. It might be just a hiccup and stupid mistake on the test, or early indication that, well, he's moving to fast, and simply not ready. |
