| I prefer a nice MLT: a mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. They're so perky, I love that. |
| I prefer Miracle Whip, for which I cringe. But its true. And I sometimes make BLTs for dinner, on home made biscuits. Everyone is happy when its BLT night. |
| If you've never had a BLT, you are missing out on one of the world's most perfect sandwiches. Get some good, high-quality white bread and lightly toast it. Spread both sides with Duke's or Hellmann's mayonnaise. Layer with green leaf lettuce, ripe tomato (summer farmer's market ones are best) and thin, crispy bacon. Add a pickle on the side and some chips, and you've got an American classic! |
Mutton? Are you a Viking? |
| OP, don't even bother in December. A BLT with a good, ripe tomato is one of the best things ever. But I can't imagine that you'll find that in December. Wait until July or August with good farmers market tomatoes. |
| I make mine like a club with 3 pieces of bread and add a few slices of good quality deli turkey meat(prefer fresh cut turkey though). This was our running out the house to afterschool activity a few years ago. Haven't made it in a few years. DD would get a kick out of it if I was to make one now. |
| White toast and crispy but NOT burnt bacon. Mayo is optional. Lots of lettuce and a couple slices of tomato. I've been to a local deli and twice ordered BLT, and twice the bacon was burnt. First time I thought it was just a mistake, it turns out they must like burnt bacon, I cannot stand it. |
WHAT?? December BLT is better than NO BLT!

You missed the reference. Billy Crystal's character says this in Princess Bride. I appreciated the reference, PP. Only clicked on this thread because I can't believe someone was looking for a recipe for a BLT. Doesn't the name sort of encompass the recipe? It's like a who's buried in Grant's Tomb question.... |
No. Mayo is not "optional." |
Sacrilege. |
Yes. You could also try it on sourdough. On another note, who needs to ask how to make this sandwich? What are we coming to in this country? |
| oh, and the tomato has to be at room temperature. Even the merest hint of refrigeration is absolutely forbidden. |
In the summer, I sometimes have a mayonnaise sandwich. It's like a BLT minus the B and L. So good. |
Oh if it's from Princess Bride that explains it... Hate that movie. |
