What does your 8-10 year old son want for Christmas?

I'll probably get him one of those Elenco electrical engineering kits, some new clothes, and a book or two.

(He already has a phone and computer but he's restricted from both for the quarter because of last quarter's report card. Access to both is tied to his grades -- he must maintain straight As to use the phone, and the computer he can only use for schoolwork until he brings his grades up.)

My 7yo, on the other hand, presented me with an official list two weeks ago and reminds me regularly that it exists.

Cute that he is so self-aware.

TJ Maxx now carries UA!
I've been getting UA stuff from marshalls for a few years now.

Where'd you find the indoor basketball hoop?

PP here. I got it from amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009CP5XK6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's pricier than I what I wanted to spend, but I'm hoping the ball return feature is worth it.

You already got stuff?
I'm not the person you quoted, but I got some stuff for my boys back in August while on vacation. I think most people have bought some gifts by now.

I feel really behind after reading this thread. I have 7 and 9 year old boys and I haven't even gotten their lists yet. I know my 7 year old wants an XBOX, but that's not going to happen.

controller for his iPod (he doesn't know this exists!)

pillow with a backrest (thank you for the idea here - he steals mine all the time to read in bed!)

Super Mario Smash Brothers (for Wii U)

Headphones (and not the Beats by Dr Dre he is asking for!)

Books

UA hoodie (probably will see him in nothing else after that)

I'm PP that got the hoop from Amazon. Don't feel bad. But Amazon does make it easier to shop early. I'm sure my DS would love an Xbox, but he's not getting one, either. You are not alone in that.

If your DS likes electronics/engineering, you could get a SnapCircuit. I got DS that for his Bday last year.

Someone mentioned the Fat Brain catalog earlier in this thread. My boys (8 and 11) were looking at the MindWare catalog over dinner tonight, circling stuff: http://www.mindware.com/

OP here - thanks to everyone for posting. This gave me terrific ideas. My son isn't pressed about giving me a list this year and I want to get a jump on Christmas shopping. Keep the ideas coming, I think this is helpful to so many of us in the same boat.

What does your kid like, OP?

Also, I've found the discussions on types of gifts helpful, e.g.:

Wii U game. He never asks for a lot - and I don't go overboard. We're going to the Caribbean a few days after xmas, and that's our present to each other.

I'm getting him a fish tank from me and his dad.

you guys get your kids a lot of stuff! mine usually gives me a list with 6 or 7 items on it…often several of them are under $10 (or even under $5), maybe one thing that is $20-30. i usually think of one or two more things but that is it. he gets presents from a lot of other people so i really try to keep it to a minimum. he seems thrilled.
