I don't know anything about a yahoo group,

That is obvious.

No. You start it. Anyone who wants to can join it. You'd need to publicize it, and if you wanted to keep it just to BASIS families you'd need some way to verify.

If they're too busy to join a listserv, they're too busy to read and write posts to it.

but how would you publicise it? I do not believe the people who abolished the list serve will write in their newsletters that another one has been created. There is no word of mouth at Basis, and I for one wouldn't care if some people joined who are not Basis parents until they wreak havoc and then I would look them up and have at them the way you are pillorying someone here whom you all think you know the identity of........ you know what they say about assumptions, and since she can no longer clear her name on the listserve I think this is kind of unfair, especially because I know it was not her on the other thread where everyone claimed they knew the crazy lady......

This is not the first listserv she has taken down...

You had some valid points, but jeez you acted like a mad woman in making your points. I know I and a whole lot of other parents were sick of you! Now go complain on Facebook! I'm pissed that you ruined a useful resource for all! I hope you feel some since of responsibility for your actions.

Sorry, but the poor woman in question posted twice during this period. Two times. She is not responsible for them deciding to destroy the list serve, and they admitted as much when they said that they had been thinking about abolishing it long before she showed up. Two emails about a facebook page and whatever else does not ruin a list serve, no matter how long and incoherent they were. Not buying it

PS some are also blaming the moderator for quitting, which is not true, and she had no idea they were going to do this before they did it

Then she is not the person who posted about the FB page, but that seems to be who everyone is blaming.....

Clearly she does.

The listserv can't just be handed over to some unknown party because the current participants specifically opted in to this one and provided their personal contact information, that's not information that should be given over to some unknown party. It wouldn't be ethical or reasonable to just give someone wholesale control without violating privacy concerns. If someone wants to start a new listserv and to let people opt into that one, they are perfectly welcome to do so.

OP doesn't seem to understand the work and larger issues with a listserv and her emails to DCUM are representative of the kind she was posting on the BASIS listserv. Because OP wouldn't knock it off and keep beating the same drum, the listserv was eliminated. I bet it really drives OP crazy to not be "heard" because that was the major complaint in the first place.

That is absolutely not the reason the list serve was eliminated they had already moderated her permanently meaning any post she proposed had to be read and voted on by a group of people.

So no. It was not her. Moving on, why did they do it?

Seriously, having thought about it "for some time" means it was not her, and she did not appear crazy to me at or after the coffee hour where she spoke. She did try to make too many points which is the same thing she did in her emails. I think that is who you are talking about, but who knows. Honestly, two or three posts cannot tank a list serve, especially when they blocked her and all the former parents who posted the negative publicity Basis had been getting in San Antonio.

So why did they do it? And who did it? I am having a hard time figuring that one out. Not the moderator, because she has said as much. The president of the BOOSTERS? I know the administration is closely involved with them, so maybe they did not want her crazy posts? But that had already been dealt with. And I cannot believe they thought another crazy would come out of the woodwork.

Names people, please..................

Credible hypotheses please..........

Basis parent. Pretty pissed here, but not blaming it on the crazy lady. Looking for a real explanation.

I have emailed the moderator AND the president of the Boosters. The moderator says she had no idea this was going to happen, and I believe her. The president is probably the same person who posted the initial announcement because emails to him have gone nowhere. They said that "there are many other ways parents can get in touch with each other."

Let me count the ways. Zero to get in touch with the whole school.

Or getting involved with the Boosters, the same folks who decided to shut down the list serve? Not happening. Really a terrible decision in so many ways I cannot begin to count them.............. Not getting my money this year, even though we gave last year and felt good about it. This sucks.

How do you know said parent is not IB for your school?

Or will get in to the same charter as your kids?

Well then stop focusing on who you think she is and focus on what she is trying (and maybe failing) to say.

Watkins shut down their list serve. Anyone know why?

This wasn't a school listserv and the school didn't shut it down. It was run by the boosters, which is like a PTA. They decided that it wasn't worth their time to continue running it.

Sorry, the boosters are nothing like a PTA. A PTA raises money for specific things and then tells you how your money was spent. These people only raise money for the "Annual Teachers Fund" and admit they have no idea how the money is spent. Furthermore, I cannot imagine my DCPS just shutting down a list serve without discussing it with the community. Because they take into account that they are members of the community.

Clearly Basis has more in common with Watkins than it does with Washington Latin......... if it smells like trouble, behaves like trouble, is Basis in trouble?

Is this OP the same one from the stolen candy thread?

Quite possibly but they are conflating her with a woman who spoke at the first open forum and founded a FB page who cannot be the same person..... so I for one feel very sorry for that woman, whom I know. Yes she posted two long kind of letters on the list serve, and was banned for it, but they did not close the list serve down because of her.

And she is feeling miserable knowing that people think she was responsible........And that she is the one posting the more insane rants on the candy thread etc. So they killed two birds with one stone. Killed the list serve and marginalized and discredited her, which was definitely on their to do list.
