Hidden gems at Wegmans?

Try the NY State Fair chicken marinade. I'm not sure if that can be purchased elsewhere (probably can?) but I grew up with Wegmans and grilled chicken marinated in that, and still love it.

Wegmans brand hummus, turkey sausages - both very good. I also like their Toasted Oats cereal (crunchier than Cheerios, and the plain one is only 2g sugar, but the honey one tastes better ). If you like dark roast and flavored coffees, try their Toasted Almond Vanilla. It's all I buy these days.

WNYer here- there are a couple of marinades you can get at Wegman's that originate in Buffalo / Rochester / Syracuse. Buffalo's claim to fame is Chiavetta's marinade (best done on bone-in chicken with the skin). This is a very vinegary marinade. Central NYers like Salamida Spiedie Sauce (best on kabobs, lamb or chicken, yummy)-- that's the State Fair sauce. It is full of green herbs and is also quite vinegary. Both of those you can get in the general marinade / salad dressing aisle, but Spiedie sauce can also be purchased at Harris Teeter.

I've also seen pasta sauce from a local Buffalo restaurant called Chef's.

Imagine growing up with Wegman's as your idea of a "normal" grocery store. This has made every subsequent move for me very depressing (ever seen the A&P in New England? ACK!) I now know why friends' grandparents from Long Island always wanted to spend some of their Buffalo visits at Wegman's.

I still wish we had Lunds/Byerly's/Kowalski's here. Wegmans is fine, but it's just fine.

Their whole-wheat pita bread is the best I've ever tasted.

Thank you! I am doing this today.

Yay! Don't forget to get the pancetta there, too - you'll need it for the sauce. Hungry now.

It's over by the cheese and it comes in a package, pre-cubed, to save yourself some prep work.

I love the recipe but I don't have a good substitute for the ricotta cheese for my seriously lactose intolerant dc. I've made ricotta from lf milk but it yields so little. It looks like a wonderful recipe.

Have you tried Lactaid brand cottage cheese as a substitute?

Pre marinated chicken breasts. They're in the refrigerated meat section. We like the brown sugar BBQ flavor best, but they're all great. The chicken turns out perfectly every time, either on the grill or under the broiler. Makes great leftovers, too.

Also second the recommendation for their whole wheat mini-pitas and the Wegs brand Grandma or Grandpa spaghetti sauce. Yum.

Another vote for the store-brand ice cream, specifically, pistachio. Oh baby.

Good organic chicken thighs--with skin and bone still in place, which is hard to find.

The only and original Spiedie Sauce is from Binghamton, New York.

Just had one today for the first time. OMG. So good.

The fake sour creme they sell there is really good! I have a dairy allergy and haven't had sour creme for ages. I tried it, and it was almost like the real thing! But nobody but me cares bcs most people don't have a dairy allergy.

Wegmans brand Nutella is better than regular Nutella. It’s all drizzly!

Yes and their wheat mini naans. They keep for a very long time and freeze well. We don't have bread around much so these are great little lifesavers.

Wegman's brand Kombucha. I like all the flavors.

Their produce is generally good. They have the best price on cauliflower (my kids love cauliflower)
Their bakery has good breads and cookies.
I also buy their store brand pasta & sauce.
