Curious - why did you bother to post? It's a well-known school, at least on the East Coast.

Because I just wanted to know more. My kids are approaching the college years. I attended Yale and Harvard Law and have never heard of Davidson. I couldn't even tell you where it is. That's why I wanted to know. Maybe I should take my kids to visit. That's why I posted "no snark intended".

NP here -- DH has a classmate from Yale Law School who did his undergrad work at Davdison -- a smart, funny and modest man, who chose to return to the south after law school. At their DC independent school our kids have had an excellent teacher who is a recent Davdison grad. In recent years Davidson has been drawing more students from this area. One thing we've learned from having had 2 of our children apply to college is that school reputations can change significantly in 20-30 years. Parents who understand this are doing their child(ren) a great service.

Seth Curry put it on the map. Never heard of it before him. But resist the "I met a smart guy" who went their advice in general.

Your point is well taken and understood. I would've raised an eyebrow if you had said the individual was 'dumb, funny, and modest.'

It's actually really not well known. Probably those who went there assume it is, but most people have never heard of it. Not trying to be snarky!

It is hard for me to assess which schools are or are not well known. I have a good memory (not trying to be immodest), so after skimming through college guides a few times decades ago I retained information about many schools all over the country.

Most people have never heard of many schools that are ranked higher than Davidson, but I still think it's generally well-known among better-educated parents in the DC area. I didn't go there, but I certainly have met quite a few people who did.

Poster meant Stephen Curry, an NBA player who went to Davidson (Seth Curry is his brother).

I don't follow basketball so don't know who Stephen Curry is. But that doesn't mean he's mediocre or should be dismissed just because I never heard of him. Get my point?

Davidson is most definitely a regional school. Most people outside of the mid-Atlantic/South have never heard of it. And many people within that area haven't heard of it either.

The term "regional school" has other connotations in this context. It's not just about geography or alleged reputation.

It's a school that a lot of super rich preppy kids go to from the DC privates when they can't quite get into a better university

What an ignorant comment. Engage brain and take a look at the Common Data Set for Davidson. If you even know what the Common Data Set is troll.

This is nuts (troll likely).....e.g., You'd be very surprised how many people outside of the Eastern corridor have never heard of Williams.....

True, but Davidson and Williams aren't even in the same sphere.

I had never heard of Pomona until a couple of years ago and am totally impressed. Doesn't mean my head was buried in the sand, just that west coast schools weren't on the radar.
