Do you use the N word?

I've never heard my parents or older sibling (we're both late 30's) use it, though my parents are what I think of as unintentionally racist. As in my father will tell us about getting in a minor fender-bender in downtown Miami and then add "But I didn't get out of the car to exchange information - the guy probably had a gun. Hey, it's Miami - it's all gangs there!" and he'd think that's funny and then not truly understand if I tried to explain why it's offensive.

do you or your family (parents, etc) use 'schwartze" however?

New poster hear. That is so 1950's. My grandparents said that, not my parents.

You know, it's possible to get angry with a black person over their behavior/source of the argument, and not have some secret agenda about their race. No, I don't.

Never. I'm a racial minority and know the effect of hearing racial slurs so no way would I perpetuate that in someone else.

The only time is when I am engaged in a discussion about past discrimination when I was a kid, when I was referred to as "the N***** loving polish Jew" after moving from NY to the deep south as a 11 yo. Mostly to let people know that I understand what intolerance is and what it can do to you.

No I don't and I never have.

I think it is the most derogatory word in the English language and the most ugliest as well.

Even when it ends in "a."

I don't use any racial slurs.

I am Asian and I know first-hand how being called a "Jap" and a "Chink" hurt me growing up so I have always refrained from using any racial slurs.

No because I wasn't raised that way. Even my very racist mother said only trash used that word.

Never and I would be disgusted if anyone around me did, even or maybe especially behind closed doors.

There was a time when it was shocking to say the word "fuck", but it has apeared several times in this discussion. However, I would distinguish between my reference to the word and actual use of the word. Similarly for the word we are discussing, which I might well use in quotes at times -- but I'll pass on that now, since I don't want to offend people to make that point.

I have.My friend was black and he at times keep saying "N this" and "N that" when describing another black person that had made him upset.
I'm not from here and hadn't heard the word. One day I also said: "that N...", and he was like:"you can't use the word". Then he backpedaled and said that it's not so much that I can't use the word(not illegal or anything), but that he shouldn't be using it either.
About time! I was still learning the language and he goes on and on using the word.
I think when I said it, he felt that I was including him or also talking about him when using it.

Not in a million years. Never before, never will. I can't even recall anyone around me using it. And if they did it would be a get-the-f*ck-away-from-me ending.
