I don't know, as I'm adopted, but I would imagine I'm very average (5'3") for my race/ethnicity. DH is 6'1" and his mom is 4'11" and his dad was 6'2". His brothers are 5'9" and 5'10".
DD is also adopted; we know her parents' height (short and shorter); she's estimated to be about 5'1" should she stay on her growth curve at almost 6. DS is through birth and so far has hovered consistently around the 95th percentile. He is 3 and is 43". |
| Shorter than dad, taller than mom. I'm a woman. |
| My mom is about 5 foot 2, and my Dad is about 5 foot 7 (I think?). I am 5 foot 4 and am generally happy with that height. I'm not unusually short--to the point where people would stare or make comments or anything...but I'm short enough that pretty much every guy I've ever dated as been taller than me, even if I'm wearing heels. |
| Shorter than my father, slightly taller than my mother. But shorter than all my siblings. Never really thought about it. |
| Yes and yes. My mom is 5'6" and I'm 5'4". I wish I was at least her height. |
| 5'7" Same height as my mom, two inches shorter than my sister. |
|
Yep.
My mom is 5'2, my dad is 5'11 I'm just over 5 feet (but tend to round up to 5'1). I'm ok with my height. The only bummer is there isn't a whole lot of space for extra weight to go so it shows. |
| I am the shortest in my family. I am now 30 and my height is 4'10. My younger brother is 5'5 and younger sister is 5'6. My mother is 5'3 and my father is 5'6. I guess I got my height from my grandmother on my mother's side. She used to always be 5'0 she was taller than me. Now over the years she has shrunk. She is now my height. In fact she is so worried about her height she gets checked out by the hospital having tests. When I go to see her I always wear flat shoes anyway. She is always the first to greet me and says jokingly let's see if we are still the same. Just by looking you can see we are. I think its great as we feel both at ease in each other's company. My grandfather used to be 5'2 and he also seems little shorter now. He said his trousers are now being taken up as they were scraping the floor. I had an aunt on my mums side who used to always make snide jokes about my height and get me to line up against her children. They were all girls and 2 were my height and 1 was 5'0. She used to call me short stuff. Until she realised 2 if her daughters were short like me. I tend to gravitate to the shorter people as I feel more comfortable chatting to them. I work in a school in primary I'm working with children aged 7 and 8 years. I have 2 children that have restricted growth and we accommodated them as much as possible. Like they have a stall for their feet as they go numb when they just dangle. They aren't related but they get along really well. Their coat hangers have been lowered to help them. The class are always helping them. We have to ensure they are safe at all times so are always at the front.. There are also other shorter children thay usually always come for a chat if they have a bad day. The school tries to make it fair on sports day the shorter pupils have races against each other. Yes I am the shortest teacher at school so nothing different there hey... |
Shorter than my 6’4”” dad and taller than my 5’2” mom. Relatively tall for a woman but would be happy to be either taller or shorter. There are pros and cons for everything. The important thing is being comfortable in your own skin and healthy. |
| Yes, my mom is 5’4 and dad 5’6 and I am 5’1…but my brother is 6’3! |
| This thread is 11 years old. How did you find it? Were you searching for others who were short? You gave so many details in your post. If so, I am also the shortest in my family and one of the shortest at work. It’s never bothered me. I didn’t care growing up. I’m glad my children are taller than me. Maybe my loud and big personally made up for my height. |

My dad was 6'2 and my mom was 5'5
I am 5'7 and my younger sister is 5'11 |
| No, but my daughters are shorter than us. It seems like they wish they were taller than me, but they are perfect as is. |
Not the thread bumper. But it's a decent NY day thread, mindless and unchallenging. |
| I am also taller than my (tall by European standards) parents. |
