What are you cooking for the "big storm"?

I'm making turkey chili. Have all the ingredients, but I probably should start making on the early side just in case the power goes out.

And over the weekend, maybe the rabbit in the freezer (with prunes).

I'm making beef stew. But now that you mention it, I should make some kind of treat for the kids to sprinkle red heart sprinkle things on. Hmm.

Red lentil stew in the crock pot, fresh naan, some sort of cookies.

Fettuccine alfredo, shrimp scampi, and peas.

I will have done my cooking for the week, so it will be leftovers. I may make coconut flour brownies. Those are good!

If you have a gas stove, you can still cook when you lose power.

NP We have a gas stove. If power goes out, can I light the burner with a regular lighter or match, or do I need one of those long camping lighters (which I don't have)? Dumb question, but I never had to do that before and I don't feel like burning myself or blowing up the house.

A regular match might be too close for comfort, but perhaps if you hold it with tweezers or something. I use something like this - easily available at most drug stores, grocery stores, target, hardware stores, etc for like $3. Available everywhere and worth having in the house.

Your stove lights from a pilot light not electric ignition, so you shouldn't need a match.

I have a gas stove. In a power outage, the burners do not ignite.

We KNOW! But the gas will still come out. That's why you use a match or lighter to ignite it. This is what is posted above. [b]

Steak and chicken... We can use the grill, after shoveling a path for us to get there.
