I'm anticipating a snow day Thursday. Have a package of frozen lamb shoulders that have been waiting to be braised in red wine. What is everyone else dreaming of cooking while big fat snowflakes fall from the sky?
|
| I have a meaty ham bone in the freezer from our last honey ham. And a bag of split peas. I'll pick up an onion and make some fresh bread for some hearty pea soup. |
| Paella |
| I'm thinking of a roast in the crock pot. Nice, warm, smells so good... |
| Are we assuming the power will stay on? |
| Meth. |
Well, yes, there is that... |
OP here. This raises an interesting question. What can we cook over the fireplace? And how would you rig up some sort of device on which to cook? Intriguing... |
| I think we would just shovel the snow off of the grill and proceed... |
| Meth I will be having a Breaking Bad marathon on Netflix |
The grill!! GENIUS! |
| I have a gas stove, so that will still work. I just have to light it. |
| hmm... maybe a chili. but i would need to buy some more ingredients. I guess i had better do that today or tomorrow... |
If you have a gas stove, you can still cook when you lose power. |
THIS. We have done this. However, I have been systematically using up our freezer meat backlog so no festival of meat for us (this time. Derecho was ridiculous). I hadn't thought about this, but we do have some good options. May need to go to the store, like, yesterday. Luckily stocked up on bread, milk, tp, and wine. Definitely snow ice cream (if it's enough to stay home, it's enough for SIC) |
