HOw is this possible? I felt like the lab was so quick to discard anything less than perfect. I was never given a chance to weigh in. I chalked this up to their desire to limit the number of cycles and keep their stats high.

They will not freeze anything that is less than perfect, but they will transfer what has developed. I never once made it to blast - both times I transferred, we did it at 3 days due to embryo quality at the 3 day mark (only 3 made it to 3 days on both occasions). I now have a 6-month old from that.

Shady Grove no longer does 3 day transfers.

Um, are you even a patient there? Yes, they do.

NP here. I just completed an IVF cycle with SG, and I was told by both my RE and my nurse that they would only do 5 day transfers. No option for a 3 day transfer. I'm not sure if this is 100% their only option now or not, but that was certainly my impression. May be different if there are extenuating circumstances...?

Just want to weigh in on my SG RE--love Dr Saffan (Annandale), but not warm and fuzzy. More like Absent Minded-Professor when you talk to him. Totally knows his stuff, changed protocols after failure, calls to talk about next steps, etc. But when you meet with him, it can take you awhile to understand what he is saying because he want to say so much, knows so much, but just comes out kinda jumbled. Sometimes needed the nurse to 'translate' for me LOL. But I totally trust him and he is a great RE.

A few weeks ago, I was told by my RE at SGF that they only do 5 (or 6) day transfers. It is new. The PP's are absolutely correct.

I am currently doing IVF at SG. Only day 5/6 transfers are being done.

I'm doing IVF with SGF. Just spoke to my RE about this last week and in my case, he would do a day 3 transfer, though prefers to do day 5/6. I have AMA and DOR, which might account for his willingness to do day 3.

I cycled at SG a few weeks ago and was not given the option for a day 3 transfer. Of course all of them had arrested by day 5...

This is an example of why I'm curious that they are so pushy for day5/6 now. I've seen plenty of examples of women getting pregnant off of day 3 transfers, and even some from day 2. When I asked, I was essentially told that if they were going to arrest by day 5, the likelihood of implantation and pregnancy would have been extremely low. Still, I've heard anecdotally that some clinics out there feel that the earlier you get the embryo back into the "natural environment" of the uterus, the better. I don't know. We had several blasts to work with by day 6, so it wasn't an issue for me on my recent cycle, but that's no guarantee for any future cycles I may need, and I can't imagine being in your situation and not having the option of a day 3 transfer. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

Loved Dr. Moon. She is clear, honest and kind.

I used to be a patient there and was thinking about going back to try for another kid, but there is no way I'd do it under this policy. That seems crazy in some cases. For example, if only one embryo is left on day 3, would they really wait two days to transfer it? I can't help this this is partially to boost their stats of percent of transfers that result in pregnancies.

We cycled with Dr. Levens and have nothing but good things to say. He was honest and upfront about our odds and yet still compassionate and cared.

We are headed back at the end of the month to try for #2 and am a little bummed to hear that won't do 3 day transfers anymore.

I'm actually really shocked to hear that they won't do 3-day transfers. We cycled there in 2013 (and now again) and on certain things (e.g. number of embryos to transfer) we pushed for what we wanted and they caved. I would think they would do the same in this situation .. i.e., if you tell them up front that you're ok with putting back day-3s even if they think it's not worth it, that they'd do it. I don't know if the situation would change if you are part of their Shared Risk program where they might be on the hook for refunding you money if you are ulitmately unsuccessful after the allotted number of attempts.

I've had 2 friends over age 40 get pregnant transferring their day-3 embryos!

Another vote of confidence from me for Dr Saffan in Annandale!

Right, but those embryos more than likely would have made it to day 5.

I had Dr. Garde and she's pretty nice. Note though that your first point of contact is your nurse, not your doctor. My nurse was in touch with me almost daily. Dr. Garde I spoke with maybe three times.
