We do this for most things like gas, utilities, office snacks etc... and let our accountant sort it out later.

So you buy your groceries with a check? Or a debit card?

We use debit cards. Are you unfamiliar with those?

I'm sure PP is familiar with debit cards, as she included that option in her question.

As another PP asked, would you put a $10,000 hotel bill on your debit card?

Of course! Why is that baffling to you?

I use credit cards and pay it off monthly. It is just cash flow maintenance.

LOL. There just might -- might -- be a little self-selection going on here, PP. Who's going to trot in and say "well, I only make $45K (not $450K) but we put $15K on a high interest capitol one card each month. But it has a picture of my dog on it, so it's all good."

That "self selection" is specified IN THE TITLE OF THE THREAD.

if you use a debit card instead of charge card:
1 no protection if it is stolen; $ immediately out of bank account
2. debit cards don't have 'guarantees' that make you non-liable for fraud like credit cards do
3. with credit cards you get almost a month of 'float,' funds you don't have to pay immediately.
4. for some things (like gas stations, hotels, or car rental), they may put a big hold on some portion of your bank account funds, meaning you can't access your own cash;

So, to the debit card user, the real question is why do you take so many risks of using your debit card. use a credit card and just pay it off on time. you can get a free credit card/no fees.

HHI about $10-15m per annum (depends on bonus). We put at least $50k per month on cc. We use Fidelity Amex and get two percent rebate back on all spend. Last year our rebate from Fidelity was almost $17K. Not a lot but it paid for a weekend in Paris....
Anonymous
Our HHI is about half if that and our credit card monthly bill I'd about half of yours.

I need that fidelity Amex! Sounds better than points. Our Amex spend about the same as yours

Our HHI is 330K and we put about 5,000 on our card every month on average and pay it off. Easy way to rack up miles.

Do you put everything on it? From groceries to medical expenses?

We have a bit higher HHI and we rarely charge a thing. I charged my DC's braces one month and couldn't sleep that night. We live frugally I guess.
