Have you ever had a paranormal experience?

Over the years since my grandfather passed away, I experienced quite a few eerie things at my grandmother's house: a doors shutting when there was no breeze/open windows, waking in the middle of the night to the sound of the toilet flushing, water running, and footsteps - I could see into the bathroom and clearly no one was there. I always felt my grandfather's presence in that house. Contrast that to my other grandfather's house; after he passed away I never once felt his presence - it just felt like he was gone. Odd.

I lived in that same house until I graduated from college. One morning when I was in high school, I saw a "man" wearing a white button down, tan pants, and a tie waving to me. I thought that it was my brother at first, but then I realized that he was still sleeping as I was the first one up to shower.
I was scared out of my mind while in the shower. I kept peeking out from behind the curtain. I still think about it sometimes when I'm up early, it's dark out, and I'm the only one up.
I told my parents about what had happened at dinner that night. My dad told me that's the description of what his father wore to work everyday. He died in 1959, and I "saw" him in 1990. At least he was friendly. It still freaked me out.

When my brother was 11 -12, we had repeated visits from a shadowy figure who looked like a squat, round man in an overcoat and fedora. After we both saw him, my mom told us that the description matched the description of our dad's grandfather, who died before either one of us was born. We just assumed that he was interested in seeing/meeting my brother, who was his oldest, male great-grandchild.

He died 21 days after the accident. The night before he died, the ghost of one of my friends who died, appeared in my bedroom. He said that he wanted to tell me that "John" was going to die and that it was okay. I sort of stuttered and he repeated that it was all okay. John died about 6 hours later.

I had a VERY similar experience.

PP here.

So... spill it!

Please.

You all do realize that none of these are paranormal experiences? Creepy, yes, but all have reaasonable explanations. Even near death experiences have been shown to correspond to activity in the par tof the brain that reacts first to lack of oxygen.

Open your mind just a little. You might be surprised at what you learn.

My old babysitter told us the story of living in a haunted house that had been a hospital in the Civil War. She and her sisters all had seen ghosts at various times. One story I remember was when she had gone running into her mom's room to get something, and there, sitting in an upholstered chair in the corner of her mom's room, was a man. But she could still see the pattern of the chair's fabric through him. She stopped short, and he faded out of view.

Anonymous wrote:Yes, recently. I was running the RAGNAR relay race a couple weekends ago, and the race involves each runner doing several runs, one of which is in the middle of the night. Though other people are running at the same time, you are usually running by yourself.

My midnight-ish run was on a deserted country road near Antietam, MD, on a road surrounded by dense woods. Other than the very occasional house, there was no light whatsoever - no streetlights. Nothing. The only illumination was from my headlamp and the headlights of occasional passing cars.

I was running up a hill and a car at the bottom of the hill, maybe 1/4 mile back, illuminated the road around me. I saw my shadow - and the shadow of a man about a foot away from my shadow. I am tall, slim, and had a ponytail and a visor. My shadow was tall, slim and had a ponytail and visor. The second shadow was stockier, slightly taller, with close-cropped hair and no hat/visor. I assumed someone was behind me, preparing to pass me, so I turned around.

There was nobody there. Not a soul. Nobody there as far as I could see. Nobody next to me. Nobody in front of me. No shape that could have produced that shadow - and it was still there. I called out to ask, "Is someone there?" Nothing.

I ran a seriously fast time that night because I was so freaked out. I just wanted to finish my run and get the hell off that road.

Weirdly, an ex of mine is deployed overseas right now, and he is doing a bunch of "shadow" races - replicating the army ten-miler, half marathons, etc. on his Army base in Afghanistan - and he is built just like my shadow was. I actually checked facebook after my run to make sure he hadn't died or something and was shadowing me. (No.)

2 lights will produce 2 shadows, different sizes, and the angle may have made the hat not visible in the shadow.

This one is kind of low-key compared to the others, but here goes. I have a little box that contains the ashes of my first cat (first pet, very much beloved). I haven't really known what to do with it, it's certainly not something I want to display, but they do have some meaning. They're in my office on an out of the way shelf. There is nothing on the box that would indicate anything about a cat - it is a plain, wooden box.

My son, at about 18 months, once came down into my office and picked up the box and said "cat! cat!" repeatedly.

After he passed, his signifigant other gave it to my husband to bring back to VA, and we kept pretty much of my dad's downloads on the pad. In July of this year, my 6 yr. old would cry, he really missed his grandpa. A couple nights later, my DH was downstairs watching TV, when the IPad started playing from it's music list. He thought it was weird and turned it completely off, powered it down, and put it in his briefcase. All of sudden, he started hearing music again from the IPad!!! Now, he was fairly freaked out, brought the IPad upstairs and told me about this strange thing happening to the IPad. As were talking, the IPad lit up, scrolled through it's music list, and started playing Louis Armstrong, one of my dad's favorite music artist. We looked at each other, and knew it was my dad telling us he was ok.

I've been struggling for years about God, heaven - though I still pray and send my DC to a parochial school. Like I wanted to believe so badly that God existed, so I went through the motions. I feel much better now and more at peace.

Thank you for sharing this.

Yes. I'm a huge skeptic and lean heavily on science to explain things. I'm not religious and the concept of a religion-based afterlife doesn't really resonate with me. Yet I'm also one of the PPs who experienced something I can't rationalize in any other way but to say it was the presence of a deceased loved one. What if there IS an afterlife, and there's a scientific explanation for it that we don't yet (and may never) comprehend? I retain my skepticism but I also think it's possible that it's only "paranormal" because we've yet to scientifically prove it.

That is awesome. All of these are incredible. So much going on that we don't "see".

Oh brother. I don't doubt that there are unexplained things and that you brain picks up on signals that the conscious mind doesn't, but it scares me a little how much some of you buy into ghosts and shit. And this is coming from someone who has had a handful of "psychic" dreams (subconscious mind problem solving) and saw visions of people in my room who talked to me as a child (hallucinations).

I have two. I am not saying I believe in the paranormal but I do think there are things out there beyond human understanding.

I have a story similar to PP. When I was a teenager, my grandmother lived with us after my grandpa died. Over the her last 2-3 days, her lucidity would come and go. The morning of her death, she was sitting up in bed. She looks at the door, smiles brightly and says “Bippy (her name for my deceased granddad) and Junior (my deceased uncle), you are FINALLY here to pick me up! I’m so happy!.” She laid down and never woke up.

The other one is more bizarre. My Dad died suddenly a few years ago when my DS was around 7. My DS was his only grandson and they were extremely close. One day, DS and I were home alone and in his room playing on the floor. DS looks up, his face turns white and he gasps “PAPA (his name for my dad)!!” I try to calm him and he was convinced that he saw my Dad walk past his room. To placate him, I walk out in the hall to pretend to look around. My Dad was known for wearing a cologne made in his home country. The smell is unique and strong and he is the ONLY man I know who wore it. Anyways, I walk out in the hall and, lo and behold, I smell my father’s cologne crisp and clear without question.

Do you think that man knows all there is to know about the universe?

The disbelief in ghosts or psychic abilities does not mean I believe humans understand everything. It means I don't believe dead people come back to talk to the living.
