Conservative-friendly schools

No..disagree and this is another poster. Sadly too many liberals seem to feel a need to go on and on about how smart they are. Generally said libs tend to be of generation wealth, or lawyers who hate tort reform. The rest are just angry that they are so smart and can't figure out how to make money. Luckily at our school talk about politics either way is frowned on and I love that. I also am not interested in hearing any conservative talk and feel no need to indoctrinate my kids. Frankly, if they work hard and build a business, they can decide how they feel about giving it all away.

Classy people send their kids to school for education and leave politics for more private discussions.

My DH and son are also hunters. We go to a DC private (listed on this thread) and seem to fit in just fine.

Just because people are not expressing their views directly to you does not mean they are not feeling that way or discussing them with others. To answer OP, while NWDC do have some conservatives, generally they are mostly more liberal and democratic schools. Based on vies I have heard expressed at our Big 3, most people are not thrilled about guns and especially with families that allow their children to use guns/hunt.

I have never heard any parent express views that were negative about hunting. In fact many liberals that are into camping and outdoor activities sometimes fish and...(gasp)..even..hunt.

liberals aren't into outdoor activities. They're usually filled with ailments and neuroses that hamper them in physical pursuits.

Sounds like a really classy liberal statement.

I don't even know what they are trying to say.

I would definitely take Potomac off this list. Also Madeira.

The great thing about living your life by "rules of thumb" - you don't have to waste time finding out the truth. Bigot.

I don't care how you are feeling or discussing with your small minded group. I do care that my kids are treated with kindness and respect as I treat all kids with kindness and respect. I have been a parent for quite some time and I have never gotten into political discussions around playmates or even fellow parents. I even steer clear with my kids..they can figure out what they think when the times come. My husband and I keep our thoughts on all sensitive matters private. I just listen to some of this nasty stuff on DCUM and while I realize this site attracts some of the elitist lefties and hopefully doesn't reflect all parents (Dems included), I marvel at the same people who go ballistic on things like saving some obscure animal would be nasty to a kid or a parent just because they have a political difference and they aspire to have schools filled with lefties because they are so intolerant of other opinions. Scary but true. Personally I like diversity of thought and I am not afraid to have my kids around it.

I'm a lifelong Democrat whose child is close friends with the child of several diehard Republicans...and you know what? I couldn't care less what their political affiliation is. They're a great family with terrific kids.

Mixing it up is good for both parents and kids.

Grew up with the kids of Heritage Foundation employees in the 80s and 90s attending independent schools in the area. No one cares about your parents' politics, although it's always mildly interesting if, say, your mom is Speaker of the House. But seriously, you are overthinking this big time. People send their kids to school for an education -- not to further their political agendas.

If you are concerned about the diversity of viewpoints expressed at a school from your child's standpoint, you need to pay attention to the FACULTY rather than the other parents. Your kids will be highly influenced by what their teachers say and what ideas are introduced during classroom discussions. The viewpoints of other parents can be annoying at times but will only affect you for the most part.

I will say that there is one particular parent at my DC's school who can often be heard introducing political statements into conversations ... "Since we are all liberals here ... <insert rest of conversation>" ... when clearly not all the parents chatting with her would agree with her assessment of the group. I used to be offended but then I decided to be amused at just how off base she really is ...

Most schools in NWDC - except for St. Pat's and NPS are pretty liberal and from someone that was in a family that's political beliefs were the exception growing up it can be difficult, especially as kids become more out spoken etc… especially about how topics such as: guns, etc….

With some exceptions there is a mix of liberal and conservative families at all pretegious private schools. The Catholic school I went to in D.C. had teachers and priests who may be categorized as progressives. But the families were a mix of wealthy, middle income, lower income families of varying political backgrounds.

Sounds interesting, what school was that?
