they had friends but there was a bit of a stigma.

That statement seems to say more about you than anyone else.

OP -- it's 13:00 again. They don't ask about your politics and they really don't care. They care about your child's grades and test scores and will analyze if they are a "fit". Don't presume your child or children will share your political views anyway.

Perhaps true at the surface level, but anyone who has been around Washington long enough can sniff out those rare conservatives that slip across the river and snuff them out as "not a good fit."

I think it depends more on your culture than politics. If you are conservatively fiscal minded that is one thing and would be a good fit for most of the schools. However, if you are into guns, hunting, shooting etc... you won't find many in the NWDC schools that are very keen on that sort of thing. In fact, it is looked down upon. You would be better in a school in Virginia or a conservative school in Maryland.

Conservatives don't like anyone ... they don't even like each other.

Hmmm we are a family that loves hunting and many of the shelters in this area seem to be happy to take what we shoot...we go to a DC school and our kids are doing great. The thing I notice is that anyone who is going on and on about any sort of politics is not very well liked. Classy people send their kids to school for education and leave politics for more private discussions.

What does this mean? What kind of shelters - you mean shelters for humans?

My DH and son are also hunters. We go to a DC private (listed on this thread) and seem to fit in just fine.

I'm an NP, but I'll chime in - yes, many shelters for humans take meat from hunters. Why not? It's far healthier than grocery store beef from a feed lot.

Agree and FYI if anyone else hunts and has extra meat..please consider donating. Back to can parents work on leaving politics out of school. We are becoming a country that is waaaaaaaay too divided. I think what I think but somehow I manage to have many pleasant conversations without going on and on about why I like or do not like President Obama--talking about the pleasant things in life is actually pleasant..we need more of that.

Agree with the spirit of the previous post. This from another pro hunting and pro gun ownership family at a Big 3, which is actually a school and not a Political Action Committee. Been in DC my entire life.

I'm a lifelong Democrat whose child is close friends with the child of several diehard Republicans...and you know what? I couldn't care less what their political affiliation is. They're a great family with terrific kids.

Mixing it up is good for both parents and kids.

Sounds like a really classy liberal statement.

Good rule of thumb: anyone who uses the term "classy" probably isn't.
