What century are you living in? My mom, her cousins and all her friends used birth control while going to church every week way back in the 1970s -- all across the DMV! Cafeteria line Catholics surround you, my dear.

& that was before it was known as the DMV!

NO!!!!!!!!! This is the church, we are zoned for (yeah, it's weird, but true) and they are by far so darn strict and conservative it's ridiculous and I'm thinking of changing. Try Our Lady of Good Counsel in Vienna. Also at St. James for some reason they can't do a mass less than 1hr 15 minutes.

How long was Jesus on the cross? I think you can spare and 1hr and 15 minutes per week.

Lady, I was simply stating a fact! It doesn't mean that I don't attend and suck up the 1 and 15 minutes. Obviously, you have never been to St. James. If it's Fr. Posey, he retells the same stories over and over, from year to year. Even my twins come out of there saying, Fr. P was telling us a story that he told us before. So before you go almighty catholic on me know the reason I mentioned the mass duriation, it was in response to the OPs question. It she's looking for something liberal, she probably is not up for an 1 hr 15 minutes!!

The church does not oppose evolution for the record - you should read up on that and the other issues you're concerned about.

If you are willing forgo being part of the diocese, there's a well-established Catholic intentional Eucharistic community in Arlington called Nova. Basically it's lay-led and different priests are invited by the community to celebrate the Mass.

There are other Catholic intentional Eucharistic community in the DC area
Caldwell meets at CUA (but it's not conservative) http://www.caldwellcommunity.info/about.html
Communitas on Capital Hill http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeq4a6y/
And I think there's one in Greenbelt but can't remember it's name.

Here's a general website about intentional Eucharistic communities in the US

Op I don't mean to be snarky or rude but I don't understand Catholics like you.
I am gay and am happy you support my civil rights and are liberally minded.

Why do you want to continue to be Catholic though?
What teachings is is you are looking for that you don't think you will find in an Episcopal Church.

I really am just curious, If you don't follow the Catholic doctrine then why do you want to be one?

Our Lady of Good Counsel in Vienna isn't heavy-handed about those topics, and is very comfortable.

I'm addressing the *a la carte* poster: You're one the reasons why ppl are leaving the church by the masses - so much for acceptance!

We belong to St. Marys, one of the most conservative churches in NoVA, however, there are many closet liberals - and I'm proud to admit and say I'm a liberal Catholic. I believe in acceptance, gay marriage, birth control, pro-choice and social justice. I'm sure if Jesus were alive today, he'd be a liberal. I can't relate to the self-righteous, self-centered conservative Catholics.

I doubt he'd be pro choice.

Jesus said, "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's." Matthew 22:21.

That is, doubt he would be conservative or liberal by today's standards.

Also, I believe he would not be "pro-choice." He would probably look at the justice or injustice in the situation and advise that one do no harm.

But then who am I, a lowly sinner, to day?

St. Mary's of Sorrow's in Fairfax is not the most conservative church in NOVA - that is for St. Raymonds in Springfield. (or did you mean another St. Mary, there are a few)

I am sure the poster was referring to St. Marys in Alexandria which is a beautiful church but stuffy and ultra conservative. This is our parish and we have started attending Good Shepard in mount Vernon and have been very pleased.

Jesus told the whore "Go and sin no more". It is not about liberal or conservative, it is about obeying God's commandments concerning morality: no adultery, no fornication, no homosexual sex, no lying on your neighbor to bring the law down on his head; no stealing, murdering, or worshipping the Tree Spirit, Gaia, Mother Earth, Allah, Buddha, or any other such thing.

Got it?

"Whore", huh? It's clear which side of the spectrum you inhabit.
