I think you are a liar. I don't think this is making your healthcare unaffordable. Nobody loves when their healthcare is unaffordable.

So, you are a liar who takes pleasure in the misfortune of others. In other words, you are a real winner.

I have a catastrophic policy for my family that I pay for. It was 459 per month and was just raised to 695. That is fact. When thousands and thousands with preexisting conditions, kids to age 26, etc. are deemed "must cover", then the cost has to be allocated to the other policy holders. It is no longer insurance, but rather "cost sharing". The increases are not limited to personal policies, but all of those provided by business to their employees. This will diminish jobs and lessen wages to the whole. Saying healthcare is becoming unfordable to many like myself is not make me a liar or one who takes pleasure on others misfortune, it is simply the unintended (but predictable) consequence of this bill. The exact outcome that was predicted by Republicans but clearly refuted by Obama who said it would lower costs. Time will tell, this is just the beginning of the process of finding out what is in the bill now that the bill was first passed.

Yet, you claim to "love" this situation. How can "love" healthcare costs rising significantly and causing financial challenges for many and not be taking pleasure in the misfortunes of others? If you did not lie about your healthcare costs rising, you must have lied about loving that fact. You clearly do not appear to love it.

BTW, the increase you describe above appears to be on a personal policy purchased directly from an insurer. The point of the exchanges is to provide competition which should result in price reductions. In DC, the initial price proposals of insurers resulted in two of them resubmitting lower prices. That's the way the competition is supposed to work. It's possible that you will be able to obtain better pricing from the exchange. Moreover, depending on your income and number of family members, you may be eligible for a subsidy.

It is true that including converge for pre-existing conditions and children up to age 26 does increase expenditures. But, the individual mandate expands the pool. Those two things should offset each other. We are currently in a transition period and the individual mandate has not yet been implemented. It may take a year or two (or even more) for all of this to shake out. But, all of use should be rooting for the success of the program. Cheering for failure because of your political leanings is literally cheering for hardship for your fellow citizens. What good is being able to say, "I told you so" when your friends and neighbors are sick and dying?

I agree. And, because my spouse worked way, way beyond 65 to ensure a comfortable retirement, our Medicare and cost share is going up, too.

Oh it is going up. The republicans want to make you paid for 2/3 of your medical expenses in Medicare. So budget on average and additional 200k for medical cost per person in your retirement.

Actually, I don't really object to the means testing. But, please don't imply that Medicare is the great plan you say it is. FWIW, my spouse is retired military, and, contrary to myth, we are on Medicare.

The GOP should attach abolishing obamacare to the immigration bill. That would be bipartisan compromise and good for the country.

This is really going to cause problems.

Yes, but most of the insurance companies that you currently work with will be members of the exchange. It's not like a single payer plan and the Exchange only has one choice. The exchange is just a website folks. I heard the head of the DC Exchange discuss the topic a few weeks ago. Stop being alarmist.

This is stupid and typical republican speak. Read the fucking bill, talk to someone, get educated and then comment. You are wrong and off base.

What you have said is not true. My insurance company is not one of the four companies that will be in the exchange. They have sent notice saying they will not be able to offer insurance in DC. The plans offered are more expensive and offer less, in addition some employees will have to change doctors. I am glad you have heard from the newly minded and salaried dc exchange folks, but in the real world people are pissed. Small business under 50 employ a lot of people and include non profits and trade groups. My lease is up mid 2014, I will go month to month until this is resolved. The business groups are already running to congress and it is a huge issue at the business round table and other groups. I live DC and the little interact I have with the is alway negative. They don't give a rats ass about small business and the people who work there.

Why do you hate America and all that it stands for?

Because this is not the America that we recognize. Our forefathers would not sand for this

Bye-bye. We don't need you here. Our population will increase without you. Move to VA where they passed a tax on hybrid vehicles. Boy, that's forward thinking.

Speak for yourself. Some of us think we *do* need her here. There are serious problems with the implementation, and DC has so much one-sided politicking that some people just knee-jerk will NOT confront.

Guess you do not work for a place with under 50 employees. Come back when you get a 50% increase in your health insurance cost. Oh wait you have no clue how much your health insurance, it free! As for the hybrid tax, roads are paid for by fuel taxes. Hybrid use less gas per mile. You have to paid for what you use.....no free lunch unless you are the DC Council and yourself.

Our 8 person company will see an increase in our premiums by approx 60%
Our current plan is equivalent or better than the platinum plan offered.

The basic problem in DC is that most of the population works for the federal govt so as a result the rest of us are forced into the exchange to balance out the cost of insuring the poor (and mostly unhealthy) folks.

Socialism has arrived

Oh please, don't use that tired expression. Our forefathers wouldn't stand for most things we do today. They'd be upset that women, non-land-owning white men, and blacks have the right to vote. If you want to criticize obamacare go right ahead and deal with the specifics, but that is an absurd comparison.

F'ing moron. This isn't a "Virginia" issue. Do a google search on the number of states doing hybrid taxes. Previous poster explained why.
