| OP try calling again - and again - and see if you can't get a more sympathetic representative who will work with you. Good luck. |
| OP, if my mom told me this story, I'd be very sympathetic. But that's because she's my mom. If you need someone to be sympathetic for your situation, find someone who already likes you. |
| I've always had amazing customer service from Amex, but then again, I'm not the type of customer to whine about $125, either. |

The BBB is your "outlet for resolution"?
Resolution of what? Your negligence followed by a self-righteous sense of entitlement that is so huge that you file a BBB complaint where YOU were the one who failed to honor the terms of your contract. I understand why you're upset because (a) you didn't get your shit together, and (b) AMEX would not give you a break, but you are completely delusional and massively over-reacting to think you have even slimmest of threads on which to base a BBB complaint. OP ... you are one ever-loving ass-cracking piece of work. Where is that Facepalm icon when we need it?!? |

An "unfair billing practice" to bill you for an annual fee that you know is coming at the same time/ same month every year, in a bill you never bothered to check?
I am wondering if you lack the basic intelligence to be using any credit cards at this point. |
I would gladly have paid a $125 PENALTY not to have my credit score dinged. Nothing fishy. Just as I said. I'm at fault. I didn't see the bill came in, and so it was a month late. Try to call customer service and you're in the Philippines. Which is only to say that it has been outsourced and these guys are really not given a lot of discretion when it comes to expunging something from the account. So I'll try BBB, where I see there are thousands of complaints against Am Ex, and in which I see most of them are satisfactorily resolved. As for the "what would you say to your mother?" of course I understand no one knows me. But I just wanted to provide a little perspective. I might actually be a nice person who can't afford to have my credit score zinged, and it's possible to forget one credit card you never use and still be really responsible. But of course I know you guys don't know me, so no harm with the other perspectives! |
|
OP, you are mind numbingly stupid. You screwed up and your resulting credit drop is entirely your fault AND the logical consequence of your mistake.
Please don't waste the time of some poor soul at the BBB -- you don't have a problem with Amex that needs resolution, you have a problem not being able to grow up and accept responsibility for your mistakes. Are you one of those people who had their mommy call their professors because they got a bad grade, are you a special snowflake? |
Too bad. I'm using BBB to see if Am Ex will remove the delinquency from my record. You guys really have a lot of pent up energy. Well, go ahead and take it out on lil' ol' me. Happy to provide an outlet for your pent up rage. |
I used to be a BBB arbitrator. I don't have any pent up rage but if your case came to me you'd be bounced out on your entitled keister in about 2 seconds with a request to not waste the BBB's time when there are plenty of people with genuine, substantive complaints to pursue. |
Well, I'll keep you all posted. My BBB arbitrator has passed my complaint on to Am Ex. So I'm on my way to resolution! Yeah! |
Same here. AmEx customer service has always been top notch for us. We've had erroneous amounts (from restaurants) entered and they get resolved, no questions asked. They've called whenever they see "unusual" activity on the account and then verified the last few charges as well. I love my AmEx. |
+1. Save the BBB complaints for companies that are in the wrong. |

I'm surprised to read this. We were 60 days late with Amex because we had put an expiration on our automatic payment from our checking and did not realize the payments had stopped. It hit our credit. We called Amex and they quickly pulled the bad report and corrected our credit. They were great to work with. however we are heavy users and have a 15 year history with them. I'm sure this factored into their willingness to work with us.
Additionally I had a shitty contractor not fufill his end our our verbal contract. Even though nothing was in writing between myself and the contractor, AMEX legal found me in the right gave me the 4K I was disputing. |
It worked for me. I filed a dispute with the credit agency, which went back to the credit card company, which agreed to drop the "derog." This was about three months ago. Granted, it was clearly the credit card company's fault (and pretty egregious at that), but their customer service department had not authority to change the outcome. The call center people just apologized that they couldn't do anything more and gave me no recourse within the actual bank. I think someone with actual decision making power got to take a look at the record, and it got a different result. |
OP here. This is what I'm hoping for. Someone to say, "Hey, this woman has been a loyal customer for 20 years without missing a payment ever [without missing a payment to ANY credit card ever], and maybe we can make a 1 time exception as a nice gesture". I just want it to be seen by someone besides this guy I talked with on the phone, who clearly was reading from a manual and had NO authority to grant an exception. If I don't get it, fair enough. But then I'll cancel my card, because it does seem very extreme for a one-time mess up. |
