Where you giving up your PS-3 slot?

I don't know anything about Brent...I don't live on the Hill. Is that considered a good school?

I know someone who did. Mom really wanted Haynes, but Dad really wanted French Immersion. After he went and did all the paperwork (generally a job that would have defaulted to her) to register the child for the lottery, and they got lucky, she decided that since it meant so much to him that is what they would do.

What DCPS or Charter offers French immersion?

Stokes and Oyster both offer French don't they? Don't know if they're officially "immersion" though. Doesn't Marie Reed also have French? Or did I dream that?

I'm hoping that 618 people give up their spots ahead of us on LAMB's wait list. One can hope, right? hahahaha!

Oyster and Marie Reed DO NOT offer French immersion. Stokes does. It is the only public option in DC.

But they do offer French, right? Just not French immersion?

You're question is odd to me. If they offer French immersion, that is offering French. Sorry to sound stern, but I'm not sure I'm getting you. Anyways, the school is French immersion. PreK is 100% immersion and as the child progresses, it goes to a 50/50 model for higher grades. It is this way through the entire length of the program. If you're wondering if at some point the immersion stops and the french is reduced to an hour class or something, no that is not the case. It remains immersion. There is also a spanish program that is exactly the same. You should go to the website and definitely visit the school. They were offering tours back in the, not sure if they are still offering them.

My question isn't about Stokes, I meant don't Oyster and Marie Reed offer French as a language option, even if it's not immersion? But I just looked at their websites, I guess I was mistaken and neither Oyster or Marie Reed have French.

So is Stokes really the only DC public school that has a French bilingual program?? I know it's nowhere as useful as Spanish, but it's such a la socially taught language, I guess I'm surprised.

I know PP, its disappointing. I am fluent in french so it is the one language I could really support at home too. There are of course private schools, but we do not want to go that route. I think a French immersion charter would be great. There are a lot of French speakers in DC, not just europeans. Lots and lots of Africans who speak french--would be great to have a charter that supports francophonie.

I'd seriously support a French, Green, Biosciences charter elementary!!! (That would eventually become a feeder to DCI, of course!) I'm totally serious too! I just don't have the time in my job to be an actual founder, but I would totally work with founders since I have some start up experience and 2 of my closest friends have each started multiple charter schools that are still in existence (in California).
