DCPS Lottery and students from Maryland

I suspect most of the families had legal residency at the time, but family situation changed. Lottery schools do not have entrance years, so to stay makes sense.

Before you blame the students, can the dcps not increase the number of charter schools and lottery programs?

I ask because the district has to provide schooling to every child. I may be wrong, but the district has incredible inequality in education. Fancy privates for the elites, others get the 2 tiered system which just does sound like one system for those in te west and another for the poors. Of all the things in world, why this mess in the capital city of what many call the greatest nation?

Already in process - with a photo of the car and license plate.

But if you had read any of the previous dozen threads on this, or read the page that was linked, you would know that a license plate is not enough to initiate an investigation. Wouldn't you?

Nor is it fraud for grandma, grandpa, nanny, aunt, uncle to pick a child up. These are your kids friends and classmates you want to report. There is no reason to assume they or their parents have done something wrong.

Actually it is fraud unless the kid's parents have joint custody. Residency is where the kid lives, not where a non-custodial parent lives.

Couldn't the custodial parent live in DC but the non-custodial parent pick the kid up once in a while?

Possible. Report them and let the system play out. Anyone (even remotely) legit won't have any problems being "okayed". That's why there's a hotline to handle this.

At least PP had the balls to use the system. Enough of us are just complaining. That car should be flagged now.

"Flagged"? What, like school personnel are now responsible for watching it? Do you think the public school system has infinite personnel for this sort of thing??

I'm all for weeding out the residency cheaters, and I wouldn't hesitate to file the form if I had any kind of evidence. But when the website clearly says a license plate isn't enough, why would I substitute my own judgment and submit anyway, with nothing but that? So arrogant.

It's pretty clear, they will not investigate with a lisence plate alone. It's a wasted call and concern.

STFU cheater lover! Your panties are twisted in a knot because someone reported a license plate? Gotta tip for you- go back to Maryland. You won't need to worry about someone doing the right thing for once!

While you make some excellent points, PP, I'll just take issue with one: What the OP did was not "the right thing". It was, according to the procedures set out by the very body with which she hopes to engage, the wrong thing. Probably nothing worse than a waste of electrons (I'm sure they trashed it as soon as they saw it was just another plate #), but still pretty dumb of OP to be upset enough to report, but not upset enough to inform herself about the proper procedure. Other than that, thanks for chiming in!

The school can ID the kids and run the license plates. If the car is registered to Johnny and Jackie's parents in Landover, for example, hopefully there will be a more focused look and some 'splainin' to do.

I'm sure that with a "Fraternal Order of Police" license plate from Maryland , the vehicle has been noticed before. This discussion may prompt other DC resident parents at Hearst to pay attention.
Anonymous
Exactly! Once they run the plates and match up names with current students it'll be clear that little Johnny is the kid of the out of towner. They can go from there.

DCPS could also ask all parents to register their cars with the school. I'd be happy to put down that my Maryland dad picks up DC sometimes. So, when he shows up its not a problem. This is a simple thing to do. Non cheaters would be happy to do this.

I dare any piss-ant parent at my school to report me for out-of-"state" license plates. My DC-registered car was in the shop for two and half months due to an accident and I had to "live" in mulitple rental cars for the duration. Each car that I possessed duing that time had Virginia, New York, and Maryland plates. Don't judge a book by its cover and mind your own business.
