Does anybody know what's going on with Haycock AAP boundry?

Why does OP think her child would not have Haycock as his level IV option if they buy in CB? There has been nothing from the county to suggest the center arrangement for CB would change next year.

I hope the school population doesn't go over 850. Any more than that and they should rezone. We shouldn't have Lemon Road 2 miles away with 300 students, and Franklin Sherman with 600, while Haycock has >900.

Lemon Road will not be 300 for long. I predict more boundary shifts from Freedom Hill - in addtion to the AAP Center that will be opening in September.. The rest of the apartments and the rest of the townhouses that were split in last year's boundary change are the most likely.

Haycock and Kent Gardens families should unite and push for Lewinsville to reopen (after a needed facelift) BEFORE they make the current planned updates for the Senior Center. That is the only way to truely decrease the over populated schools in this area. No school has room for more students, we need more schools.

Not quite. Sherman, Kent Gardens, and Churchill Road are projected to be below capacity within the next 5 years.

But not by the amounts needed. Plus 5 years out there will be more students coming in around the Tyson's area that will have to be enrolled somewhere. I only know of one planned new elementary school to address the increase from the Tyson's expansion.

But can someone tell me for sure if I buy A house in CB boundry, my Kid can go to Haycock for level IV ? And please state your source.

Thank you so much.

FYI, Chesterbrook has a great LLIV. Just compare the number of LIV identified children at Chesterbrook to the ones that go to Haycock from Chesterbrook. The upper grades are a little higher because they are the tail of the transition. CB offered LLIV several years ago and most families that already had a child at Haycock sent their younger child to Haycock. Most who did not have a child at Haycock, kept their child at Chesterbrook.

I know some claim that the math at Haycock is better, but my (anecdotal) experience is different. My DS stayed at Chesterbrook and is flying high in math at Longfellow. No regrets at all.

Can't predict the future, but at the moment there are no plans to close the Center at Haycock. Although there has been some talk since all or nearly all of the McLean feeder schools will have the LLIV option soon - all the talk is speculation.

Cause we moved here last year, renting in FS base area. I checked county website, FS was supposed to feed into HAycock. Take me 2 month to process AAP paper, then they said we have to go to Churchill, and no transportation.

I know Churchill is great, but I can't handle logistics.

I don't understand this. Franklin Sherman is supposed to go to Haycock. There was a big hoopla when Janie Strauss voted to keep FS at Haycock but move Kent Gardens (which is closer to Haycock) to Churchill Road. It seemed ridiculous at the time to have one bus going east and one going west past each other to take students to AAP Centers, but logic doesn't always work in government.

It was a special situation this year. OP stated she just moved here. Haycock AAP was closed to all transfers this year due to overcrowding. Once the cluster two students are in their school next year, the Haycock AAP shouldn't be closed any longer. However, it they pupil place a ton of kids. Or the base population grows unexpectedly, then this could happen again. With the planned renovation the school can old house so many travels with a combined construction site.

That was for this year. They said that next year the feeders will attend there. They kicked out the kids form Lemon Road, Westgate and Shrevewood to make room.

"Unexpectedly?" I think everyone expects the base population to continue to grow.

Haycock will end up with only Local Level IV; the question remains precisely when that will happen.

Why isn't transportation provided?

Before the AAP reshuffle FCPS was expecting growth through 2016, and then a decline in enrollment starting in 2017. It's not like that part of Falls Church is expecting the type of growth anticipated in some of the schools nearer Tysons like Spring Hill and Westgate.

I don't know. I suppose Churchill doesn't have that route.

And I was new here, didn't know what I should question.

OP, I'll be honest. I'd think twice about sending your child to Haycock over CB AAP. Full disclosure, I'm one of the "Cluster 2" parents so I'm sure i'll get flamed. I would hate to see your family go through what we went through.

The Haycock community very actively lobbied to have some AAP kids redistricted to Lemon Road. They will claim to be a welcoming community, but I sure didn't feel welcome when they were up there testifying about how my child (who has been there longer than some of theirs) was just not welcome. There was just not enough space for my child, who thought he was part of the community.

This wasn't just a couple parents who sent emails. It was parents emailing, petitioning, and testifying over and over to get some of their own community kicked out. Parents arranging torus for school board members. It was an AAP teacher who has some of these very students in her class at present, not just emailing, but publicly testifying that she wanted them to leave. Some of the kids in her class watched that testimony. It was a principal who said she would remain neutral, but did not. There was an active campaign to get the Cluster 2 kids kicked out.

I know the school is vey overcrowded and the Haycock parents will be on here trying to defend themselves, but that's not what a community does in my mind. A true community sticks together and tries to find solutions, rather than turning on the weaker, smaller group and driving them out. We could have banded together to get FCPS to find other solutions (or at least give the school extras for the burden) instead of fighting among ourselves. I would never fight to have another child kicked out of the school. I can't even comprehend what would possess someone do that.

I guess the Haycock parents will say they did what they thought they needed to do, but I for one would be cautious about voluntarily placing your child in this so-called school community. Once they decide it's too crowded again, they'll turn on you like they turned on us (and Kent Gardens before us). Out of an entire school community of over 900 kids, only a handful stuck with those that were being driven out. It's very telling. Apparently, if you're a center kid from another school, you're not actually part of the community.

It was ugly and gave me true insight into my fellow Haycock parents. I can't wait until my child leaves now that I know what the community is really like.

I agree with 11:51 but from a different perspective. The Haycock situation was so untenable that the School Board now refers to other messy situations using the phrase "like a Haycock."

Haycock is likely be part of the first phase of schools that will lose their AAP Center. This will be a likely result of the AAP study (to be completed by June). It would not surprise me to hear that Haycock would be slated to lose their AAP Center in fall 2014.

Unless you move in boundary and very close to the physical location of Haycock, there is no way I would count on my child ending up at Haycock.

Doesn't make sense.

If your child is AAP qualified, FCPS should arrange for transportation. Although if your kid is starting when the school year has already started, they may not change bus routes just for your kid.
