Are they going to take kids from FranklinSherman and Chesterbrook again next school year?
I mean now that there are new AAP centers like Lemon Road? |
They are slated to take kids from FH and CB next year. WHo knows how long that will continue. It depends on what the base school boundary does. I would imagine the base school boundary will be adjusted at some point in the next few years unless the base population declines. |
I assume pp means FS and CB not FH. They are in for next year. The assumption is that parents will chose LLIV, which will keep the Haycock population roughly where it is or perhaps a little smaller. |
I'm trying to find out how much validity there is to the "Haycock base boundary changing" rumor, because we're currently in Haycock boundary and looking to move to a bigger house within Haycock boundary. We're considering a house at the fringe of the boundary (near West Falls Church metro) and this rumor is making me nervous. I know that Janie Strausse specifically said they would get rid of all special programs (AAP) before they touch the Haycock boundary but I still... |
This Is OP. Can you guys tell me where you got your information from? My son is level 4 qualified but I didn't send him last year cause we just moved here and renting. I don't want to have to move him again after we buy a house. |
Changes to Haycock's base boundary are unlikely any time soon. FCPS has done nothing to suggest it will change the base boundaries and a great deal to preserve them. But nothing is ever 100% certain. |
Haycock's situation with its huge student population is going to force some major changes soon.
I'd venture to say that if you're HS is not McLean AND MS is not Longfellow, then you're likely to get cut first. |
Every address in Haycock's base boundary is zoned for Longfellow MS and McLean HS, so your prediction doesn't make sense. |
The only ones left that don't feed to Longfellow McLean is part of FS that feeds to Langley, which cannot be very many children. I guess there are a few from Timberlane that mght not feed into Longfellow/McLean, but Timberlane sends so few students that I can't imagine it could be more than 5 students total that don't feed to Longfellow/McLean form Timberlane. They would not likely split FS or TL and send it to 2 different centers. When they removed the "Cluster 2" schools, they removed everyone from Lemon Road and Westgate even though they are both split feeders to Kilmer and Longfellow, so they seem to be going by elementary school. I think the hope of FCPS is that enough people will choose LLIV so they don't have to remove anyone else from the center. I think future action depends on how many choose LLIV and how large the base school grows. As for a boundary change, if I had my heart set on Haycock (which I personally do not), I would buy carefully. I don't think you can predict what will happen as there are many variables. I don't think a base boundary change would happen for a few years, if it happened at all. They'd get rid of the center first, which would buy some time. |
There are kids that go to Haycock now for AAP that are zoned for Marshall HS. |
No new ones next year and only the grandfathered ones in upper grades next year, the others will go to the new Lemon Road Center. |
Maybe there are two different discussions taking place here. I thought we were talking about the base boundaries rather than the AAP assignments. Obviously there are changes that will be taking place to the latter, as reflected in dozens of prior threads. |
Never mind - I see the title of this thread but I have been respomding to 12:29's question about base boundaries. |
After the renovation at Haycock is completed, it will still not contain the population. I think boundary changes are likely. The only other option is to remove the center entirely. |
The renovation should be just big enough to cover the base population and the cluster one students currently assigned. With the creation of the local level IVs at the remaining cluster one schools, the hope is the center population will decrease over time. If the base population continues to grow, then they will need to redistrict. |
