I also live in NCC although not in the official "Village of" boundaries (which is fine by me, since the Village management seems a little old school.) We like the area a lot. The commute is quick, schools are good, our kids live at the Audubon (for camp and days off school) as well as at the pool. We use the bike trails all the time, and walk to the supermarket and Starbucks frequently as well. There are plenty of working parents like me, but I see enough traffic at the pool to know that there are also a lot of SAHMs. Our house is small, but if I could move I would try to stay within the same area.

I will flag one item for you though: not the PL, which is probably still way in the distance and not immediately contiguous to NCC, but the redevelopment of Chevy Chase Lake is on the horizon. They are talking about remaking the intersection where the supermarket now sits into something that will resemble Friendship Heights: shopping malls, hotels, apartment buildings. This will have a huge impact on traffic and schools, but seemingly can't be stopped because the county is broke and the planning commission is in the pocket of developers. I wouldn't avoid NCC for that reason, but it's the kind of thing I would have wanted to know about before moving there. Good luck!

Do you have to use North Chevy Chase when addressing letters and bills, etc or can I just use Chevy Chase? I know "I" live in North Chevy Chase but would rather not chat it up if you know what I mean.

No you would use Chevy Chase. You do know that this is pathetic though, right?

Could be worse, could be Kensington.

It's a full moon tonight. Is that your explanation?

You should be so lucky to live in Kensington.

What could be a useful thread has completely devolved. Any other substantive comments welcome. Otherwise, please don't waste our time.

I get my car repaired in Kensington, does that count?

OP here- just for the record, I only wrote the first post, then the thread was completely hijacked. It is a shame because I know many of us are in the same house-hunting boat and these ridiculous responses just make us waist our time instead of providing the thoughtful responses many at DCUM usually provide.

Anyway, 15:43 thanks for your answer. Interesting to know about the Chevy Chase Lake Drive plan. The area looks as a beautiful community full of great schools, I'm now worried about this plan changing the quality of life in the area.

I will start looking at Kensington, no issues with the address at all, just trying to find the best place for my family to live without the absurd price tag.

OP, I get your disappointment on the turn the thread took, but I think you contributed to it, with your comment on looking to get a maid and not looking to move into her neighborhood. other poeple posted stupid stuff but I think they were being ironic, your comment sounded real. anyway, I do not live in that area so this may not be useufl, but we were in the same boat in 2010, lease expiring at the end of May, a toddler and a 5 yr old, our budget was 700K max, I word downtown my DH by the Montgomery Mall, and we were looking in that area. we could not find by the end of the lease. we negotiated with our landlord a new annual lease that we could get out with 60 day notice, except for between November 1 to February 28. this gave up peace of mind we could find a house we liked and give notice and not have to pay rent and mortgage. we realized that area was drive only life style and too far for me to commute in a reasonable time, we endeda up buying in CC DC. we got a single family home in great shape with a nice yard, but we had to compromise and get a 3bd instead of a 4bd. it has worked great for us. we have only 1 car, walk everywhere, movie theater, shops, library and playgrounds nearby, and the girld insts in sharing one room (we moved from our rented 2 bd so they could each have their room, and now they want to share, go figure - I am sure they will be happy to have their room when they grow up).

Sounds like OP said she just wrote the first post, not the posts about the maids, etc.

Why is "North Chevy Chase" in quotes? Isn't that a real neighborhood name? This is unlike "North Potomac", "North Cleveland Park" and "North Georgetown" which are basically realtor contrivances to strech the boundaries of pricier areas but not the real names of neighborhoods.

No, you don't, any more than the residents of Somerset address their mail there. It's just Chevy Chase 20815.

Cool, I can't wait to tell people I live in Chevy Chase. Hopefully, no one will ask where.

Whenever I see a racoon, I am quite careful, as well.

OP: You sound quite conflicted about moving the the suburbs. Stay in the city!

OP we live in NCC and we are aware of the development plan. I don't see a problem with it and you won't escape it in Kensington. They are developing the entire area along Connecticut and Rockville Pike. There is a Costco and a Wegman's going in Wheaton Plaza and they have already started developing along White Flint Mall. So development is here there and everywhere. We both commute into downtown and go via E/W Highway thru Rock Creek onto Beach and then pop onto 16th, 14th, 13th, or 11th. It's easy and fast. No issues. Plus Forest Glen is close (as is Bethesda but traffic to Bethesda sucks). We have a community pool and Rock Creek Park and a Farm Stand on Jones Bridge. We LOVE it here. Can't recommend it enough.

Wait, did you say Wegman's at Wheaton Plaza? How do you know? I can't seem to find any information on that exciting bit of news.
