Thoughts about moving to 'North Chevy Chase' near 495/Rock Creek Park?

I like the neighborhood and have lived the SS / Bethesda / Chevy Chase area for 15 years.

I used to live where we were zoned for NCC. Both kids did well there and are doing fine now (hs and college).

Also consider Rock Creek Hills in Kensington, there are some nice homes there in that price range if the Chevy Chase address isn't too important.

Thats why I keep my housekeepers passport. Any time she uses that pledge crap I threaten to tear it up. Keeps her in line.

The housekeeper comments are just weird.

I also live in NCC although not in the official "Village of" boundaries (which is fine by me, since the Village management seems a little old school.) We like the area a lot. The commute is quick, schools are good, our kids live at the Audubon (for camp and days off school) as well as at the pool. We use the bike trails all the time, and walk to the supermarket and Starbucks frequently as well. There are plenty of working parents like me, but I see enough traffic at the pool to know that there are also a lot of SAHMs. Our house is small, but if I could move I would try to stay within the same area.

I will flag one item for you though: not the PL, which is probably still way in the distance and not immediately contiguous to NCC, but the redevelopment of Chevy Chase Lake is on the horizon. They are talking about remaking the intersection where the supermarket now sits into something that will resemble Friendship Heights: shopping malls, hotels, apartment buildings. This will have a huge impact on traffic and schools, but seemingly can't be stopped because the county is broke and the planning commission is in the pocket of developers. I wouldn't avoid NCC for that reason, but it's the kind of thing I would have wanted to know about before moving there. Good luck!

That's too bad. I really like the medium-sized, neighborhood-based shopping areas like Chevy Chase Lake, Spring Valley shopping center or the areas around the Safeways in Chevy Chase and Palisades, DC. They're the right scale, approachable and usually have most things. Too bad that developers (and the planning/revenue office) want to remake everything to be like Friendship Heights or the Cathedral Commons complex going up in NW.
