If you are a gay woman....

Comfortable flat shoes, straight-legged jeans, longer-length shorts, very little make-up and jewelry. I have gone through phases where I tried to dress more girly, but all I felt was that I was trying to impress everyone else around me. I remember in 9th grade when all the other girls in my dance class were spending hours on hair and make-up and getting giggly about boys, while I wasn't. I started to think I was gay, just because I wasn't like them. But I'm straight. I'm happily married to a man. We have mostly traditional gender roles in our marriage, and I am in most other ways traditionally feminine. It's just how I dress.

But do you buy your clothes in the menswear department? If a man bought his clothes from the women's department, he'd be considered a cross-dresser, right? So how is that different than a woman in men's clothing?

No, I shop in the women's dept.

I know lesbians who shop in the boys department. Why? Because they're comfortable and WAY CHEAPER than what you'd find in a women's department.

Men love blow jobs. Women love men who go down on them.

What's your point?

It is very bizarre to read a bunch of straight people argue about lesbians based on the one lesbian they know and some random stereotypes.

I am a lesbian and posted two responses, just didn't identify myself as such.

I am convinced this was started by the Octotroll or Chipotle Lady.

How is this thread offensive? Gay women are offensive. They are way too aggresive and make me uncomfortable. They don't care if you are straight, its like a challenge. They are worse than cat calling men. The butch ones is who I am talking about.

Because it's the clothing they like, I guess.

It sure is comfier.

There are lots of comfortable women's clothes so that doesn't really make sense. I don't buy men's wear and I wear very comfortable clothes. I don't dress girly or frilly but I still buy my clothes in the women's section. There are some women who do buy clothes in the men's section and seems to want to look like men - be seen as a man. I always thought it was the same as a man cross dressing and wanting to dress up in women's clothes and look and be seen as a woman.

Some of the PPs are way over-thinking this.

Both. I dress casually for work (because I can) - cargo pants/khakis/ with cardigans/etc. But also own dresses and heels for when the occasion presents itself.

I have long hair that requires minimal upkeep and wear little make-up.

I would say that people don't always assume I am gay, but aren't surprised when they find out.

You sound hot.

I wondered this as well. There seem to be a lot of lesbian women who dress like men traditionally dress.

I had no idea there were so many people so bizarrely clueless about lesbian culture. I'm speechless.

If you had the option of wearing clothes that were more durable and less expensive than typical clothes made for women, and you didn't particularly care about meeting gender expectations, why *would* you wear "women's" clothes?

oh honey, you just haven't noticed the lesbians who dress the way most women dress. There are a lot of them, too.
