Would a child named Rory be teased with "whorey"?

All names have teasing potential--some more than others. This name rates pretty low on intrinsic teasablity, IMO.

One of my best friends in Law School was named Rory. I always thought it was the best name, but then again I love girls names that are a little more imaginative then 'Jennifer' or 'Anna'. I think its a great name.

No more than Laurie. I've never heard whorey used anyway. It's Ho.

3 pages and no one's mentioned the world's #1 golfer, Rory McIlroy? No one will be mocking him.

Preppy name (Imo)

I know 3 people named Rory, all girls ages 5 and under. Not my favorite name, but definitely haven't thought of the "whory" rhyme.

I don't think they'd be teased, but I always have found Rory hard to pronounce for some reason. Too much "r" sound involved.

My name is Lori. Obscene rhymes have never been an issue.

The name Rory is the anglicized version of the Gaelic name RuairĂ or Ruaraidh. It's a boys' name in Ireland. RFK's youngest daughter is named Rory, so I guess by the 60's it had become unisex.

I would be more worried about kids pronouncing it. I LOVE Rory for a boy or a call. It was in the running for all 3 of our kids!!

I believe OP is naming a girl. But you're right, no mocking Rorys (unless she gets his hair).

Wasn't there a "Simpsons" episode when Marge was pregnant with Bart, and Homer and Marge run through a long list of names, and Homer comes up with teasing versions of all the names until they get to "Bart." Then Homer says that there's no teasing twist any kids could give to Bart.

I always think of Rory as a girl's name. I would not worry about "Rory Whorey." If she's liked, no teasing nickname. If there's some obnoxious jerk intent on teasing her, then there'll be some mocking nickname no matter what her first name is (last names are always fodder for teasing as well!).

What about Fart?

I'm bummed this name has gotten so popular. It's been on my name list for ages but I haven't been able to use it. Maybe I'll name my next dog Rory...

I kind of like it for a girl. Very effeminate for a boy, though.

That's true, Ls and Rs are notoriously difficult for kids to say. That being said, I survived being called Yawa (Laura), and no one ever called me "Whore-a." Rory Whorey never occurred to me before your post, OP, and I don't think it would to most kids, either.

I can't pronounce this name myself. Too hard to say.
