Komen's DC Race for the Cure is down 40%

Good. I gave my donation to Planned Parenthood and pro-choice PACs.

My reason for not supporting Komen is what came up in the aftermath of the PP issue. They hired some leadership that was closely aligned with conservative social groups and actively opposed PP specifically because of abortion.

So the idea that this was just pulling funding because they weren't actually providing mammograms is a lie told by Komen to cover their tracks.

I will not support them because I believe there are real and legitimate concerns that my money would support conservative causes that I am adamantly opposed to.
AND it's not even the first lie they came up with to explain their actions. So transparent.

And they are getting hit from both sides of the political spectrum, because I am conservative and no longer wish to donate to them because I am ticked they reneged on their decision not to give $$ to PP. (And because I have always been concerned about their administrative costs.)

Very true! It's a great example of how charities like this should not get politicized.

Yup. Supported an Avon Walk for Breast Cancer fundraiser instead.

It appears the scandal has hit the organization pretty hard, here and elsewhere

40% is not low enough, IMO.
Komen sucks!

How do you know this? Because that's what Planned Parenthood told you?

No, because Komen released a statement on the day they made their decision. And it does not match the mammogram story above. And it does not match the statements from departing executives. Not my fault that Komen changed its own story.

That said, I am glad there is a serious consequence to their, IMHO, idiotic move to defund planned parenthood. If there are no consequences then ninnies that find themselves at the helm will think that their ideas are good.

Its an idiotic move for any charity to fund another charity so the funding should never have been given to planned parent hood to begin with.

They are a foundation. That's what foundations do - give money to other nonprofits.

Then they need to understand that people may not like their choices and decisions of where to give the money. For me, giving money to an organization that I thought worked hard to prevent/cure breast cancer (and I do admire much of what they've done) means that I don't want it to go to a group that supports abortions on demand.

Me, too. I never would have supported Komen if I had known that they gave money to PP. PP is vile and is an affront against women, their children, and the families of our nation. The fact that Komen reneged and decided that they *would* still give to PP left me completely disgusted.

On the contrary, PP is a beneficial organization that strengthens women, their children, and the nation's families. And, fuck you very much.

Your response to those who don't share your views is very telling. I'm going to continue thinking that most people who support that organization do not share your attitude or lack of civility towards those who disagree.
