U.S. anticipates Israeli attack on Iran this spring= $6.50 a gallon gas or more.

Leaving aside the prudence of attacking Iran, I think we're going to see a long period of increasing gas prices. It's inevitable. The only way you're going to reverse that trend is to stop the growth of the middle-class in India and China.

That's the main reason I chose to live in a walkable neighborhood in DC. Granted $10 gallon fuel is going to be painful for me and my neighbors--but it will absolutely kill exurban and rural America. And generally speaking, these are the people who've voted over and over and over again to not do a fucking thing about the problem.

You reap what you sow.

An analogous situation would be if the deleterious effects of climate change disproportionately affected conservative states over liberal/progressive states. Sad? Yes. Just? Also yes.

Some one needs to stop Israel. This is the worst case...two crazy religious states going at each other.

Israel and Iran or should we say Bele and Lokai

The gas price trajectory might be a plus factor in any calculation by Israeli PM Nut'n'yahoo to attack Iran. It could create the sort of US political pressure that helps the Republican nominee, who if elected is less apt to question any of the present Israeli government's policies.

I live in a walkable neighborhood too, but higher oil prices are going to increase the prices of food, which are already high enough IMO, and other goods that rely on oil. I guess we're all going to start eating more beans!

One thing about cars in Europe are that they are much more economical on fuel than they are here. I was looking at a few cars available in England, and the car companies claim over 70mpg. My car gets 35 mpg and its supposed to have great fuel economy!

Oh, just stop it. Every time you get a chance, you predict the end of suburbia. The apocalypse is not around the corner. The inflation-adjusted price of gas is not that different from the 70's and society did not collapse. And that was with cars that averaged 12 mpg. The math does not support your doomsday prediction.

Stick to the important point, which is that high gas prices will be a drag on the economy, and leave your judgments about suburban living out of it.

Reading this, I'm reminded of the proverbial frog that gets slowly boiled in a pot. Look at the numbers in India and China. Traditional oil production is flattening, and demand is increasing. All the hand-waving about oil shales and tar sands ignores that fact that we're going to need much, much higher energy inputs to get anything out of those. Which means an inevitable climb in prices for all energy sources.

Suburbia exists because of cheap oil. If that price doubles, folks who live in walkable neighborhoods will get a cold, and folks who live in auto-dependent cul-de-sacs will get pneumonia. You're whistling past the graveyard.

True, but Bush wasn't a "real" conservative. Of course, the next GOP president who gets elected, implements conservative policies, and as a result, inevitably fucks up the country, will also not be a "real" conservative. They're always "real" going in, but never "real" coming out. That way there's never any accountability for the conservative ruling philosophy.

No, see, if the conservative policies he implemented had good outcomes, he'd have been a real conservative. Since they did not, he's not.
