Leaving aside the prudence of attacking Iran, I think we're going to see a long period of increasing gas prices. It's inevitable. The only way you're going to reverse that trend is to stop the growth of the middle-class in India and China. That's the main reason I chose to live in a walkable neighborhood in DC. Granted $10 gallon fuel is going to be painful for me and my neighbors--but it will absolutely kill exurban and rural America. And generally speaking, these are the people who've voted over and over and over again to not do a fucking thing about the problem. You reap what you sow.
I live in a walkable neighborhood too, but higher oil prices are going to increase the prices of food, which are already high enough IMO, and other goods that rely on oil. I guess we're all going to start eating more beans! One thing about cars in Europe are that they are much more economical on fuel than they are here. I was looking at a few cars available in England, and the car companies claim over 70mpg. My car gets 35 mpg and its supposed to have great fuel economy!
