Leaving aside the prudence of attacking Iran, I think we're going to see a long period of increasing gas prices. It's inevitable. The only way you're going to reverse that trend is to stop the growth of the middle-class in India and China. That's the main reason I chose to live in a walkable neighborhood in DC. Granted $10 gallon fuel is going to be painful for me and my neighbors--but it will absolutely kill exurban and rural America. And generally speaking, these are the people who've voted over and over and over again to not do a fucking thing about the problem. You reap what you sow.
Oh, just stop it. Every time you get a chance, you predict the end of suburbia. The apocalypse is not around the corner. The inflation-adjusted price of gas is not that different from the 70's and society did not collapse. And that was with cars that averaged 12 mpg. The math does not support your doomsday prediction. Stick to the important point, which is that high gas prices will be a drag on the economy, and leave your judgments about suburban living out of it.
